My first thought when I saw the maroon glasses guy was "looks like she spilled jelly on the page, or perhaps some kind of fruit juice."
My second thought was "OH YEAH!"

some homework.
seems like his neck is a bit long
I think I can get away with an error like that in this assignment. The point was to push, pull and exaggerate, and my classmate is a pretty lanky guy.
Gotta agree that it might not be defined enough on his left side, though.

ugh. week 12.

Is that last one real life painting or do you have a tablet?
I was too focused on the pictures, I couldn't see the text ):

it's just another medium. so i guess i'll just tackle it the way i would tackle sometihng like oil paint or gouache.
Paint from life to get a handle of it first[as well as basic shit i haven't gotten the hang of yet like light and form.. x_x].

kayyy
On average how long does each one of these take you? I'm an impatient artist, I have a hard time drawing things long-form, unless i'm in a class.
Those are fairly quick sketches, I highly doubt she did them all at once except maybe for the arm study, so if you meant in total it would probably be a longer time, but for each little one I would go with anywhere under 15 minutes.
yeah, they were all done at once.
each little sketch took me under 5 minutes, each arm study, maybe 2 minutes or so each. about 10, if you count the side arm drawings i did after each study to try and make sure the info sunk in.
each element of the little ochre line drawings less than a minute each maybe.
http://www.majhost.com/gallery/bapsi...glefermata.jpg
quick little something of a friend.
Damn, stuff like that would take me ages to get right. I have a habit of drawing, then erasing once I realize the proportions are wrong, then drawing, then erasing again. My work gets smudgy. Good thing I got this tablet, then. How do you make sure your proportions stay consistent while you're filling out a piece?
I kinda just eyeball the proportions. o_o
unless you're drawing a front view in all of your figures, it's tough to check proportion with something like that 8-heads-tall rule, so i try not to depend on anything like that.
i think the contour life drawings kinda helped with getting them right the first time more often while drawing. That and drawing with a pen instead of a pencil or anything else erasable.

another one.
thanks for pointing that out.
I had a very hard time figuring out color in the shadowed parts of forms.
Shading in color is a bitch :|
I don't want to lecture you as it makes me feel like a hypocrite since I kind of suck, but pretty much shadows are a darker form of the same color (obviously) mixed with the dominant color source in the environment. So lets say this apple is outside, the shadow would be a mix of the red hue plus a tad bit of blue. Also depending on the surface it is sitting on, the sky emits a light, so the apple would have some light blue reflections, but note that the light blue can not be any lighter then the main light source. at the top of the shadow, seeing as this is rounded, the light osurce from the sky is hitting one side while the sun is hitting the other, so the darkest part is technically is the midpoint between these two light sources, basically right when the shadow begins. It is not very noticeable unless shown in a white light area on a oclorless ball, but it is there none the less. The very bottom of the apple should be basically more dark blue then red contrary to the upper portions, as no actual light source is getting there to reflect the red to you, but the blue sky permeates the whole atmosphere so you still get that lbueish tinge. (note there still is SOME dark red, just a lot less then the other areas) hope this helps, it kind of sounds ocnfusing without images, and you probably know all this, but still worth a shot to help a fellow artist.
edit- from my observations this is inside, generally yellow indoor lights give off purple shadows.
I've never seen my yellowish indoor lights give off even a dark/pale shade of purple shadow, it's always been actually slightly green. And I know I'm not colour-blind.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/4586/shadowsw.jpg
I did it in a rush and used a dynamic field, but in sense, this is how shadows work. Also note that the darkest shadow is only as dark as your darkest value, so adjust your field as needed.
thanks for the advice and help guys~
in all honesty, i had a little trouble and got lazy when the time came to mix color for the shadowed parts of the apple's forms.
And so, the heresy of that nasty muddy color came. haha.
I promise to do some shadow and color studies and stop being a lazy shit. D:
yeah. thanks for calling me out.
Timo, I do not spout out shit if that is what you are implying. Seeing as most people on here will hunt your ass down if you say something false, I tend to tell the truth.
edit- ignore the shitty photo, just look at the shadows behind the poppies. It is a known fact that shadows take on colors timo, with blue being the dominant one in nature other then green through transparent leaves. Also the green you see is actaully a weak yellow in the center of the shadow from reflective light off of the other surfaces in your room but the edges of the shadows and shadows on smooth things such as faces indoors tend to be purple. (note the word tend)
You're right as that's what a camera picks up which is what I guess white balance is for, but I can't say i've ever seen that effect with my naked eye. I'm just speaking from personal experience (which is why I said "I"), and I could still be wrong, but lets not shit this awesome thread up any more.
Agreed.
I'm going with Chains on this one. I see it all the time.

Wow great work :) The girl with no arms, I recognise off a tv show not sure which one though.
Stupid question, but what did you use to make that, paint, pencil?
i used photoshop . :3
Nice thumbs, for some reason the character reminds me of the main shinigami (anime whores don't get angry at me I am trying to spell death god) from death note. Might just be the body type and hair plus how he stands.
I love that style...
thanks guys.
i'm in love with inky black silhos and spiky costumes. the shinigami comment was taken as a compliment.
