Use the Halo 1 ship. Looks better, and is higher poly, might not be Halo 2, but I think it look a bit better then the h2 ship.

Yeah, All maps that uses Covenant ships always bugged me, the fact that they use that ulgy piece of model that is.
I said before that I the map should be in an adjacent lake to the one you see in Delta Halo and Regret. I thought it would be cool if you take a page out of Halo 3's book and have the flagship model coming out of the clouds, which would indicate that it is the same ship as the one in the Halo 2 Delta Halo/Regret sky, but you're just closer to it. Also, you would be able to use a much lower-poly model since it would be so far away and half would be covered, so that's 1/2 the polygons right there.
Check out the level Coastal Highway from ODST when the assault carrier starts coming out of the clouds.
Also, make it look good. Shouldn't it be purple?

Yeah, it's not that it's a specific color, it's that it's very reflective, and thus takes on the color of the surrounding area.

I think it'd be cooler to just have it floating there. There's no need for the ship to be flying around unless it's glassing something ;p

Well I don't want it flying around but having it perfectly static is kind of weird looking. I'm going to have it tilt and drift very very slowly. Like as if the wind was moving it around a bit.

Unless someone paints a damn sky then I can't. Halo can't do volumetric shit properly and I like having the ship close enough to see detail.

Yeah yeah, I know its not very detailed but I can barely model. It's only 3k polys total so even polar can run it on high settings.

What? All you have to do is have Con put the model in the sky...he made it anyway. Hell, that would even prevent any portalling problems.
As for detail, you'll see plenty. I don't think the distance should be any greater than the one in ODST, and that came out fine. But fuck, you should worry about the details of the surrounding hills and shit more than the capital ship.

Here's an idea:
Have some ships scroll across the sky under a bitmap of High Charity like it is when you go into the last Delta Temple.
It'd be a nice complement to the ship floating above the lake. (Also, I still have Connor's DH sky if anyone needs it; I made sure it didn't get lost through all of the reformats and uninstallations)

Oh yeah, most of it was just one texture. It wouldn't be a lot of work to touch that up, but you'll have to wait while I finish some other things first. Let's take this to PM's for further discussion.
Alright guys. I finished the last few UV's for delta lake and we are now at the point where I need other people to help.
All that's left to do:
- High rez some of the "meh" textures.
- High rez normal maps on a few shaders.
- Background landscape needs a nice ultra detailed 2048x2048 texture.
- Updated sky with 1024x1024 bitmaps.
- Move sun about 30 degrees closer to the red base. I don't like the current location.
- Aether lightmaps. Dee is handling this I think.
Bold are the most important.
Then we are done.
For the sun, just import the sky into 3ds max, place a marker where you want. And export. Then in the sky, just have the sun lens flares attach to the marker.

The beams in Rev don't fit this map if left alone. They would need to be much lighter.
