It's a good thing I didn't.
No, I do not agree with your explosion assessment :P However, I will concede the FRG is.. interesting. Its even been said it will never be in matchmaking because the gun itself causes frame rate issues when its fired.
It was networking issues, not graphics. Projectile moves too slow.
Yeah, I'm assuming it'd just be a pain in the ass for the networking to keep up with in comparison to a sniper round that ends instantly.
Speaking of custom games, can anyone confirm a custom game matchmaking service?
Yeah, since all carbine based projectiles register as a hit as long as your reticule is red at the time of the firing in Reach it's easy on the networking. For the FRG, it's out there in the wind sappin' your bandwidth with object creation and update messages.
Yay Keyes!
I would be pissed off that the picture you posted there contains spoilers that I didn't know about...but CAPTAIN KEYES!!! :D :D :D
my god this thread is huge
Who's Sara? Was that the girl in the first level that Jorge was chatting with?
You guys should know, when you edit the corrdinates of an object, it rounds off the float value of its position to the nearest 10th. Rotations are 0-180 rather than 0-360. When you have an object selected, your position will be relative to the object, and your camera will follow it. If you try to move, you will orbit around the object. Objects are made so that if you were to edit the coordinates, they would fit nicely together. So a box at 0,0,0 would fit nicely with a box next to it at 0,0,1. If a phased object was to spawn inside of a vehicle, or vica versa, the vehicle will explode. If it is a player, the player will simply die. Some of you may know this already, but Decals will not draw on dynamic objects.
Lights that are on structures are actual lights, so if an object was to go near it, it would properly be lit dynamically. If a phased object was to end up being out side of the level, it will delete its self.

Some of you are playing Halo: Reach a little bit early. It happens. With millions of copies out of manufacturing quickly making their way into the massive global retail chain, it’s not terribly uncommon for a few discs to “accidentally” slip into a few lucky customers’ hands. Que sera.
If you count yourself among that lucky few, there are a handful of things you need to be aware of that will likely impact your pre-launch Halo: Reach experience. First, you’re playing in what we consider a test environment. Several key services are disabled, or in various states of fluctuating functionality, and core elements of the game, including big ticket items like matchmaking, credit acquisition, and the daily challenge system are all running at less than optimal levels.
In addition, any Credits you earn during this slim pre-Launch window are going to be summarily and systematically reset prior to launch. Don’t get too attached to any fancy new gear you might have already acquired. Consider any expenditures or investments you’ve made in the Armory the cost of doing business early. It’s nothing personal; we just want to make sure the playing field is kept nice and level upon launch. It's only fair.
On a similar note, I’ve been seeing some chatter about the prospect of mass quantity credit dumps that can be earned through offline play in various game modes. Some of the laziest among us are no doubt already plotting out their path of least resistance, thinking of ingenious new ways to rubber band a controller to achieve a Zen like state of ridiculous effortlessness.
Not so fast. When you escort your offline profile into the wonderful world of Xbox LIVE, our servers will identify your newly connected status and instantly notify you that our online credit scale operates on a completely different level. (That fizzle sound you’re hearing is probably your boosters running out of fuel in an oxygen starved environment. Don’t look down, RocketMan.)
If you choose to remain offline with your decked out profile, you get to keep your ducats and your duds with no questions asked. But should you opt to take this party online, your credits will be reduced significantly and any Armory items that you had previously earned (for which you no longer meet the minimum online credit or rank requirements) will be righteously revoked.
Of course, the credit reduction that occurs when you make the move into cyberspace is completely by design. For players without a connection to the outside world, the system is simply accelerating the credits being awarded to allow them to experience the Armory at a realistically achievable (but decidedly lonely) offline pace. For those who opt for a more social experience, the grind is a little more protracted, but still profoundly fun.
Looks like Tyler did the female trooper or female civie voice. Here's a short interview with her.
Todays panel was quite interesting. The talked a lot about the story development and what went into the game. They also mentioned and played a video of gameplay features that sadly didnt mke the final cut. Some of those were large scale fights, much like in BF, a warthog boat, boarding giants and hunter like vehicles and sticking grenades on them, and a few others. The video was really cool, its too bad they couldnt get those in. The funniest of them all was the forklift being able to lift stuff. Unfortunately, it was glitched and would launch objects hundreds of feet into the air.
Are those vids up anywhere?
Waypoint will have them up soon.
Cool, cool.
Frankie said tonight or tomorrow.
They haven't given a specific time yet.
What? Or Tomorrow?
FUCK BEANS.

Someone from ign posted these.
That is the most awesome thing I have ever seen. Too bad they cut it.
Wow why bungie, why? :'(
They probably cut it because it made the Hunters too easy to kill.
I doubt the video will be on waypoint. It was just a cut of a bunch of raw animation
If you can't wait for waypoint, heres a shortened version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aOb6Nn8egA&feature=sub

Those enormously open spaces looked amazing. Damn Bungie for cutting those out.
The engine must still have the capacity to produce things like that. I think this definitely calls for a PC version, so modders can take advantage of what Bungie had to cut.
Just finished a 47 minute firefight game.
The depleted sword is so useful against Jackles.
tons of shit gets cut out of games. sometimes there's just not enough time to implement things and polish them to a shippable condition. It's not just that, but there's so many other tiny little things that prevent stuff like that from making it. The process of game development isn't just "Oh hey let's make this it's gonna be super awesome and bad ass!!" You have to keep in mind thing like play balance, level flow, avoiding crashes caused by bad code, all sorts of the little things.
Trust me when I say, when stuff gets cut, there's usually a good reason.
Besides, we should be thankful they're showing off prototype stuff that was originally going to be internal only.
Check out me sig yo

Didn't Bungie basically say that huge open battles were part of reach anyway
Not exactly sure what this "global battle" thing is
E: Balanced or not, though, character boarding a grunt. I'd so pay extra to have that
I think basically it would have been building on the Flocks concept to make it interactive. If you recall from the previous two released games, there was usually some sort of battle going on in the air or whatnot. This is just really cheap (to the CPU) AI acting out a battle in the background. These battles didn't apply to what you were doing really, they're just for adding to the mood.
Well instead of these background battles, you now also have surrounding (foreground) battles which actually have affects on the way you're playing the mission. IE, how that Scarab all of a sudden says 'ohai!' and now you have to take into account that you can get ass blasted by it while trying to move around. It's no longer "ok, I'm in this section of the mission and I have to battle these guys to take out that AA gun", it's "ok I have to take out that AA gun" and "oh shit, what was just attacking those falcons is now coming after me!" or "oh shit, that ghost just followed that warthog in and now it spotted me!".
It would have been a feature that actually made it feel as if a "global" battle was going on, not just battles you're encountering in the currently viewable play-space, along with some "background" battles which are really just for looks.
In which case it'd seem to be more appropriate to make such instances simple set pieces rather than take the time to make sure that AI does what it's supposed to every time, which I'm assuming is why they cut it.
Really, they did a decent job with The Covenant in H3, so I'm assuming with the engine changes they've made it'd be easy enough to replicate that kind of feeling.
Now that I think about it, don't Assassinations fill the same basic function that Character boarding would, without the balance issues?
Appears the new b.net is up.
NopeQuote:
But not yet fully armed and operational.
Yup, a small switch was flipped this afternoon in anticipation of Halo: Reach's impending launch. Yes, some stuff is not working at full capacity. No, you don't need to keep emailing Stosh.
When the big switch gets flipped, we'll let you know.
also, the skies are beautiful. The campaign dialog was a little weak but its still pretty cool.
Spoilers:
Why does this happen when I take screenshots
It's because you're playing the game before it's on sale. I think that's pretty obvious.
I tried this in Halo CE for a while, but it did get a bit laggy on my computer (which is considerably low end). However, it's still possible in CE too, which makes me wonder how they'll implement it into Reach. Another thing I think is really odd is the Gueta. It's marked down as an enemy in the ordnance section, not just an ambient life. I wonder how many times we'll actually fight them.
Oh and:
13:00. Hilarious.
You get 4 cR a kill and 11 cR for a headshot in MM
Do you loose cR for team kills in MM ?
But seriously, do you?
I don't know, I'm just watching a stream http://www.justin.tv/dgsemipro#/w/375443872

I doubt the star is for having them all.
Please tell me there's a Southpaw Controller scheme in this game.
I think so, and the halo 3 controller setup as well.
I'm getting sick of waiting damnit.
Flash yo box yo.
But yea, I guess we can organize some firefights on 0day.
I work 5 to 2am release day. I'm trying to see if my friends can pick up my copy for me so I don't have to wait till 9 am when Gamestop opens.
I'm hoping the star will be the new way to show Bungie's recognition, like Recon pre-ODST in Halo 3. This way it can be used to easily identify these people without making such a big impact. I wouldn't expect to hear outcries of "I CAN HAZ STARZ?!" if this was the case.
Maybe they'll force the star on accounts which have been ID'd as being griefers or two-bit-dropping-at-the-start fucks. You know, besides Bungie giving them temporary bans. Basically a mark of shame.
Hmmm...actually, too bad they couldn't do that with the Arbiter's mark of shame thing.
I wouldn't have made it based on a time frame. I would have made it based on game metrics, so you actually have to put effort into undoing your bullshit. This way there is yet another road block on using other accounts to boost.
Oh, and MLG schmucks would automatically start with the mark of shame for the bullshit they pulled with Yelo back in the Halo 2 days :|

Oh hoo
So what's this I hear about getting something for preordering it?
UA Multi Threat Armor, Day one purchase gets you the recon helmet as well.
cant wait what is it 3 more days now?
ya
Damn, ordered mine from Zavvi :(Quote:
In North America, only customers who pre-order Halo: Reach from GameStop will be able to receive this armor piece.[2] Those living in the United Kingdom can receive the UA/Multi-Threat armor by pre-ordering a copy of Halo: Reach from either GAME[3] or Gamestation.[4]. In Australia, players who pre-order from EB Games will receive the armor on release, replacing the previous Recon offer.
us Germans get Führer Armor :-3

Mine got dispatched on Friday, they say to allow 3-5 working days, it might arrive here on Monday :D
Damn looks like I'm deleting my recently installed FIFA 10 game to replace it with Reach :D Thats some crazy speed improvements.
What bugs me about them resetting the credits, okay yes for people that have it ridiculously early (like 2 weeks), but say someone gets a copy legally, on Monday, if they play it they lose everything. I mean okay they still get to play it, but =\Quote:

Also the whole if you go online, you'll lose alot of credits. That will do my head in, if I want to play a bit of SP on my own, I make up some credits along the way, I realise yay I can get some new armour, I go out and go into MM, and then I lose that armour because my 'online credits' is lower. I agree for people that use it just to rank up, but I think they should allow a fair bit. Kind of ruins the whole purpose of gaining stuff offline.
They're not doing it on the 14, it's already been done. Urk said so in the HaloGAF thread. cba to find, there are so many posts.
They said it in the BWU.

(Tyson also dropped by and wanted us to inform everyone that the Credit wipe we told you about last week has been initiated and that if you've gotten a hold of a legitimate, legally obtained copy of Halo: Reach, please feel free to fire it up and play.)
Review embargos are lifted, scores are in. Big surprise; everybody loves it.
If you're thinking about passing on this, you're running out of excuses.
Honestly, what do you expect reviews to say? There's no such score below an 8 today, and you'll never see any "big" series a score below a 9, no matter how god fucking awful shitty it is (see: Modern Warefare 2).
That said, Reach is a good game. Campaign could have been 30% longer since it was too short and nothing big happened. Otherwise, expect Halo 3 + loadouts - BR = Reach.
My opinion: 7/10. Good game, but still much room for improvement. Keep in mind that IMO, ODST got a 4 and Halo 3 got a 5.

e: from the 1up review:
Quote:
Bungie community director Brian Jarrard confirms that, unlike previous titles, there's no additional cinematic or end-scene for finishing on Legendary difficulty -- everyone sees the same last scene
tbqh I wasn't pointing to the scores; I was pointing to the reviews themselves. Looking solely at review scores is a terribly ad hoc way to judge a game's merit.
That sucks that there's no Legendary ending. You know what would have been an awesome way to do bonus cinematics? A Legendary ending that compounded based on what other Halo games your profile completed on Legendary.
If you beat Halo 1, you'd get to see an extended scene where the Pillar of Autumn takes off. Then, if you beat Halo 2, you'd get to see a scene aboard The Arbiter's ship, where they begin their pursuit. After that, if you'd beaten ODST, you'd get to see a scene starring Buck getting off the planet. Then the Legendary ending for Reach, and finally, if you'd beaten Halo 3, a scene pertaining to the ultimate fate of the Chief.
It's supposed to be the last Halo game from Bungie, right? That would have been an excellent way to end things.
Except there's no way to tell if you beat Halo 1 or 2, let alone on legendary. The "bonus" mission serves an ending far better than a plugful legendary ending.
Wait, there's a legendary-only bonus mission at the end?
Hmm. I forgot there were no achievements for Halo 1 and 2.
You could always connect to bungie servers and check if you have a halo PC key or halo 2 stats.
I'd ask this too, but I actually don't want to know.
I pick the game up in 24 hours from now (Midnight Launch UK) and I'll be quite happy learning about all the 'spoilerish' stuff after I've finished the campaign through.
I've been spoiler dark for over a month now so I'm dying to play it and every time someone says 'Reach' in a sentence I get a little excited... my friends are abusing this fact though... but I'm sure they're hiding their excitement for the Midnight release.
Anyway - see you on the other side of the release guys!
Just wondering if anyone knows, how many custom loadouts can be used at once in custom gametypes? And can custom loadouts be used in Firefight?
No, it's just a bonus mission that is played no matter what settings combination you've pulled out of your ass and put into the game.
Having a PC key doesn't mean you've even played the campaign, or even played the Xbox version. Having H2 stats doesn't mean you've even played the campaign. H2V well...no one wants to really talk about that so you can just forget checking the achievements for that.
Lets get a row call of people getting the game at midnight and your timezones.
I'm gonna be lining up in 4 and 3/4 hours :woop:
I'll have my copy in 5 hours :3
I pre-ordered with release date shipping, no line standing non-sense for me
Still have another 11 hours and 30 minutes.
:smith:
I can't get a midnight release, seeing how I work. I also work Tuesday night 8 - close. I won't get to fully enjoy this until Wednesday...
