I was under the impression that buying it on day one (or pre-ordering outside of North America) just gave you an extra attachment to the Recon helmet in the form of a blast visor or something, no?

In North America, only customers who pre-order Halo: Reach from GameStop will be able to receive this armor piece.[2] Those living in the United Kingdom can receive the UA/Multi-Threat armor by pre-ordering a copy of Halo: Reach from either GAME[3] or Gamestation.[4]. In Australia, players who pre-order from EB Games will receive the armor on release, replacing the previous Recon offer.
