Halo 1 Modding 4-Player Coop and Beyond- Now coming to your nearest modded Xbox :O
Wow... It seems like you can now play every Halo game through the campaign with more than two people... The new addition to the collection is Halo 1 (Halo 2 was already done for those who don't know)... I love my modded xbox : D.
XBC and XLink syncing is still being worked on, but it seems to work extremely well via split-screen. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm going to guess that regular system link syncs fine...

Re: Halo 1 Modding 4-Player Coop and Beyond- Now coming to your nearest modded Xbox :
it's always been possible, just not feasible for we PC folk since the splitscreen code was deleted from the engine.
Do note though that the synching of AI will still be a problem and you'd need the spawn points added for everyone to start at once and play "reasonably".

AI usually syncs through system link (Over an LAN and XBC Xlink etc) in H1X. I can see why it wouldn't in this case though...

I think he means over the Internet. Maybe you could use Hamachi to fool the game into thinking you're playing over LAN, but would that even change anything? Also, the syncing issues would still be there, would they not?

There was never any AI in Halo's MP maps, so more than likely there is no code to sync up AI states. What would happen, just like in the PC version, AI will appear to sync up until AI decisions become based on something randomized.

I've been following Halo 1/2 Xbox modding for a very long time now and I'm sure that AI syncs online in both games, despite not being prepared to handle AI.
This definitely wouldn't be able to exist if it didn't: (Halo 2 Online Coop)

Could I do all this with softmodding? I don't really want to give my Xbox to anyone to put a mod chip in :\

don't even bother with that, there are far easier (and safer) methods of modding your xbox nowadays.

Dude, AI in Halo 1 DOES NOT sync in PC OR Xbox. There is NO code to sync the AI.
Get. It. Thru. Your. Heads.
This really isn't co-op, it's just SP->MP conversions tbqh.

The internet, no, as halo 1 has no netcode for the xbox. Over the net as in tricking it into thinking it's playing system link yes. However, the AI actions are created based off processes on the xbox's cpu. Any time an AI makes a decision it is liable to reach a different conclusion on each cpu. As for the ability for a person to have a co-op in a single player level, yes it's very possible as the only difference in a Halo 1 MP and SP map is a flag that says what fashion of game it is. The engine runs the same way, but in SP loads a different set of commands on what to do (such as the pause menu and what happens when a map is won).

Re: Halo 1 Modding 4-Player Coop and Beyond- Now coming to your nearest modded Xbox :
well, not exactly true there Zeph. There are actually specific sub-game engines which are used when running MP games

Re: Halo 1 Modding 4-Player Coop and Beyond- Now coming to your nearest modded Xbox :
Not exactly true, but I'm trying to generalize it as much as possible. We're dealing with people who think AI sync over MP, remember?

I know this might sound retarded and/or impossible, but couldn't you somehow just give the AI to the host's CPU and have all the other player's PCs just listen to what the host says?

That is what you call netcode.

Anyone want to point me in the right direction to a tutorial of the best, current method to mod my original xbox ?
I'd much rather not buy anything (Spliter Cell, memory card, etc.).

its been a long time, but im pretty sure i used this..
if you dont like that method, just look in that forum section, there are a bunch of ways to do it.
Thanks for the link, that definitely looks doable. How would I transfer things/mods onto the xbox once I have it modded? Sorry to ask questions, I just thought it would be easier for someone who has done it to tell me, rather than me take time googling something I have never even attempted.

Re: Halo 1 Modding 4-Player Coop and Beyond- Now coming to your nearest modded Xbox :
once its modded, you can simply ftp into the xbox, and transfer files that way.
all you need is a crossover cable (not sure if it works with a regular ethernet wire)

Yeah, it has to be crossover, since the NIC in the original XBox doesn't have the ability to detect the type of network connection like the 360 does.
