Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
When you make small gaps like on the top of it, you should make them bigish, or not at all. Small extrusion are a waste of time because you won't notice them. Needs to be less blocky. The top "gaps" need too be bigger, not in depth, but in space between them, if you get what I mean.
I will stick it in paint later and show you what needs changing, im going out in 15 minutes now though.

The gaps have been put there as is shown in the multiple refferences i have used, i do not intend to change them.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
Then why ask for crit?

Use mine a a reference, most of the details are accurate.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
I'm liking your camera idea there, especially since it's something I've thought of a few times. :P
If you want something designed for Spartan use, then try to make it something completely out of the ordinary, and maybe a little far-fetched. If you're not thinking of adding this new feature into gameplay, maybe you could add a launcher that shoots a little gizmo that's connected to the Spartan's helmet, and sends him/her video feed, motion tracking, etc... from where it landed. This way, the Spartan could shoot this thingy into an enemy base or something, and then get valuable information from it.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
@Hunter: If you had bothered to read the fucking post you would have known i asked for ideas on what to add, i did not say anything about the top panels on the gun just what to put in place of the flashlight.
@hotrod, That sounds like a good idea but im still not to sure n having something fire from that area because i feel the design would be rather boring and there wouldn't be much room for multiple projectiles.

orly :realsmug:
Also the thing circled in red looks odd to me, maybe it's beveled too far out?

Add a plasma bayonet. Do it.

If you read his post you would of known he's not making a replica, unlike what you were trying to show him to do..

I was under the understanding the reason the assult rifle in halo 3 having those slants were due to the normal map seeing as you cannot do complete dip in depth you have to make it slanted slightly.
And as i have said im working on a refference which show's no slant.
The other details on your gun could easily be painted onto the diffuse so their useless.
I will how ever add the clip at the rear and add the safety button.
I seem to remember a while back you was asking for ideas on weapons and complained when no one suggested something on topic.
How ironic you are doing the same thing you complained about.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
I had a good look at the AR in Halo 3 ages ago and I do not think they where made with a normal map.
The render I showed you is the highpoly model which has been made into a lower poly version.
And I probably complained because I go NO ideas, I doubt I complained about people giving me crit, although I may be wrong because I do not remember the topic which are talking about.

Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
Yeah, the thread where no one gave me any ideas, i didnt complain about receiving crit seeming as nothing was made...

There were plenty of suggestions you just disregarded them because you didnt not understand what the suggestions implied.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
No there wasnt, there where just sudjestions like; use the missile pod. Or use some other already made Halo content which I didnt want.
Why did you even bring this up anyway, all because I gave you some crit, seeming and your model needs it as it does not look nice at all.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
So Im guessing it will be larger than the MA5C/B ?
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
If i showed you the refference im working on would you drop the whole thing about the lines between the plates?
Because to be honest i actualy preffer the current top plating being straight edge.
The rest of it is free top be critizised about infact i was expecting someone to mention about the ammo counter as it took me a while to get a decent shape which im still not happy with.
@advancebo.
No its arround the size of the MA5C to keep it portable its not like those things werent big enough anyways
I've finaly come to a conclusion on what to add.
I've decided to add 3 sensors one being the camera idea another being a sensor sending weapon orientation to the heads up display and another to detect active cammoflauge elites.

Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
Update.
Model is finished and has now got smoothing groups.
The attachment is done only thing left is to unwrap and texture.
For someone who started on this site remaking remakes of old simple designs which never really got used much when they were done, i think i did well with this model.
It was my first gun model i've done and i've got out of it what i wanted, experience and knowledge on making more advanced models than Daleks.
My next model i think will be the halo 3 spartan biped which is alot more complex than this but atleast im learning new things.
If anyone can give me tips and advice on making bipeds that would be greatly appreciated but untill then here is the render for my newly modeled MA5D assault rifle.

Probably because you're expecting a flashlight and something else is in its place.
Either that that its actualy got a trigger.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
The part above the front grip (below the two long horizontal indents) looks way too flat. Give it more shape, less 90.
Now that I think about it, the whole area behind the front grip is also very flat looking, and doesn't flow very well into the back of the gun, how it just stops at a 90 degree angle. The grip itself is also kind of boring, but its a little better looking than the surrounding areas.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
Grips on guns wrap around the metal/plastic on the handle therefore they should be thicker then the handle. Yours is just weird looking.
Re: [Work in progress] MA5D
look at the blueprints in the resources thread if you have any doubts about proportions.

Yeah, i've already checked this against the blueprints and so far it's seemed rather solid in terms of proportions.
I've mainly modeled this weapon using this as the main refference.
I don't particulary want to have to remake it all over again but i will if you personaly think i should do to gain a better result.
