    [WIP] MA5D

Been working on my first gun model with the help of Deehunter and numerous refferences but i have come to a halt on the final major detail.
My main problem is having a flashlight on a rifle which is to be designed for a soldier with a powered suit would seem a slight bit redundant.
Would the helmet not have integrated night vision for instance?
So im trying to figure out what i should add in its place.
Notice i designated the gun as MA5D not MA5B or MA5C so this gun won't be for the standard soldier more designed for spartans to use.
Another thing is, ive thought about adding a dot laser module then came to the same conclusion as the flahslight, the helmet has a heads up display why would i need a laser sight when i could have a reticule telling me where to aim.

I only have one idea so far that seems viable to me.
Adding a integrated camera, sure it could be added to the helmet but a camera would come in alot of use on a gun as for instance people tend to try and shoot for the soldier not their guns.
If for instance we pretend we have a camera in a spartans helmet what would happen if said spartan had their head blown off, all that data would/could be lost plus there would be no way to find additional information of what happened afterwards.
However on a gun the camera could still keep rolling and record what happened afterwards so when recovered could be used for the same kind of thing as a flight recorder in a plane.

Basicly what im asking here is for anyone with indepth information on what kind of tech would be usefull in a battle field to give me their opinions.
I don't want to add a grenade launcher as it has been done to death and i don't think there would be enough space to fit it into the area the flashlight would normaly take.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated and let's try and keep this conversation reasonably serious no "lul put dah fleshlight in da"

When you make small gaps like on the top of it, you should make them bigish, or not at all. Small extrusion are a waste of time because you won't notice them. Needs to be less blocky. The top "gaps" need too be bigger, not in depth, but in space between them, if you get what I mean.

I will stick it in paint later and show you what needs changing, im going out in 15 minutes now though.

The gaps have been put there as is shown in the multiple refferences i have used, i do not intend to change them.

I'm liking your camera idea there, especially since it's something I've thought of a few times. :P

If you want something designed for Spartan use, then try to make it something completely out of the ordinary, and maybe a little far-fetched. If you're not thinking of adding this new feature into gameplay, maybe you could add a launcher that shoots a little gizmo that's connected to the Spartan's helmet, and sends him/her video feed, motion tracking, etc... from where it landed. This way, the Spartan could shoot this thingy into an enemy base or something, and then get valuable information from it.

@Hunter: If you had bothered to read the fucking post you would have known i asked for ideas on what to add, i did not say anything about the top panels on the gun just what to put in place of the flashlight.

@hotrod, That sounds like a good idea but im still not to sure n having something fire from that area because i feel the design would be rather boring and there wouldn't be much room for multiple projectiles.

    orly

Also the thing circled in red looks odd to me, maybe it's beveled too far out?

Add a plasma bayonet. Do it.

I was under the understanding the reason the assult rifle in halo 3 having those slants were due to the normal map seeing as you cannot do complete dip in depth you have to make it slanted slightly.
And as i have said im working on a refference which show's no slant.
The other details on your gun could easily be painted onto the diffuse so their useless.
I will how ever add the clip at the rear and add the safety button.
I seem to remember a while back you was asking for ideas on weapons and complained when no one suggested something on topic.
How ironic you are doing the same thing you complained about.
