Halo PC Weapon Overview by Muki Hyena
=====================================
Overview
========
This is a view of the weapons and their strengths and weaknesses in the hands of a moderately skilled player. After playing HPC since it came out, I've made a few observations concerning the weapons and figured I'd share. This is meant to be an objective view, based on an averagely skilled Halo player, someone who has a general idea of where the hitboxes are.
======
Layout
======
Clip size:
The amount of ammo in a single clip, followed by the likelihood of killing someone at optimum range before the clip is empty or the weapon overheats.
Damage in clip:
The amount of damage in one clip if all hits are direct and/or headshots.
Start capacity:
The amount of reserve ammo that comes with the gun when picked up.
Max capacity:
The amount of reserve ammo the gun can carry.
Accuracy:
How accurate the gun is; IE how much of a chance the shot will hit if you're aiming at their hitbox.
Damage per shot:
The amount of damage each shot inflicts.
Firing rate:
How fast the gun fires.
Reload time:
How fast the gun reloads. And yes, this does matter, even when backpack reloading you have to wait for the amount of time it takes to normally reload.
Projectile speed:
The speed of the rounds fired.
Effective range:
The range at which the weapon can be used effectively.
- is mostly useless,
x is decently useful,
X is most effective.
Bullet magnetism:
The ammount of bullet magnetism in the weapon, how much the bullets move toward the target, the center representing the center of the screen.
- is no magnetism,
x is a probable hit,
X is a definite hit.
For you unbelievers:
Versitility:
The use of the weapon, made by estimating the prior strengths or weaknesses, as well as the range and versitility of the weapon.

M6D Pistol
==========
Clip size: (12)
Damage in clip: xxxxxx- (Very high, 4 kills in 12 rounds)
Start capacity: xxxxxx- (48)
Max capacity: xxxxxx- (120)
Accuracy: xxxxxx- (Very accurate)
Damage per shot: xxxxx-- (High, 3Sk headshot)
Firing rate: xxxxx-- (3 rounds a second)
Reload time: xxxxx-- (Fast)
Projectile speed: xxxxxxx (Instant)
Bullet magnetism: --xXx-- (Short spread magnetism)
Effective range: xXXXXx- (Short and long range)
Versitility: xxxxxx- (Extremely useful)
Overview:
The starting weapon; a puny sidearm that could practically be a high-powered, semi-automatic rifle. This gun has no weaknesses aside from extremely long ranges, and enough force behind it to take down anything in roughly 3/4ths of the clip. The maximum capacity of this gun lets you fire off three or four clips as many shots as you want before having to worry about ammo. If your first three shots miss, you have nine more to make up for it, and if those miss, you only have to sit through a two second reload. The ammount of bullet magnetism makes it effective in close range, and the scope and accuracy allows it to hold it's own against long-range enemies, and even snipers. This is overall the most versitile weapon, rendering most others as sidearms.
Overview:
Extremely innaccurate, but very useful in short to meduim-short range, long range is out of the question. The extremely high ROF makes for good semi-anti-vehicle cover fire. It's also effective for spraying down close-range enemies.
Overview:
Excellent for short range, laggy connections, and anti-vehicle. The large clip allows you to spam practically as many shots as you want at a target before having to reload. If you're lucky you can get one or two of the pellets to hit someone at medium-long range, but the damage will be minimal.

Sniper Rifle
============
Clip size: (4)
Damage in clip: xxxxxx- (Very high, 4 kills in 4 rounds)
Start capacity: xx----- (8)
Max capacity: xxxx--- (24)
Accuracy: xxxxxxx (Extremely accurate)
Damage per shot: xxxxxx- (Very high, 1sk headshot)
Firing rate: xxxx--- (Moderate)
Reload time: xxxx--- (Moderate)
Projectile speed: xxxxxxx (Instant)
Bullet magnetism: ---X--- (No magnetism)
Effective range: --xXXXX (Medium to extremely long range)
Versitility: xxxxx-- (Very useful)
Overview:
Good for long-range, but the low bullet magnetism and small clip means you'll have to know how the netcode works to use this gun effectively. Using this gun at close range is possible, but much more difficult than sniping from long range. The low maximum capacity requires you to conserve your shots. Managing to hit someone with two of the four shots or one headshot can be a 50/50 coinflip at times. Sometimes the concept of the hitbox can get totally messed up, sometimes they'll know where you are and try to avoid your shots. Very deadly in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.
Overview:
Slow rockets, huge splash damage. Easy to avoid, don't try sniping with these, although sometimes long range rockets are predictable. They can take out huge crowds and vehicles in one hit, but the small clip size and maximum capacity make up for
Overview:
The primary fire is very weak, but the overcharge makes this gun a bit useful in close-quarters. You'll have to go through mutiple overheatings to bring your target down. Never try fighting with the uncharged shots. This gun gets no love.
Overview:
It takes quite a bit to kill somebody with, but if does have a stun feature that keeps them in place for beatdowns... if you actually want to risk your neck and get that close. This gun could be so much stronger.
Overview:
While the needles do track and cause huge explosions, the speed of the needles allow for easy dodging. This is only useful on people who aren't expecting it. If the speed and tracking on the needles were increased, the range would be further, and the weapon would be much more useful.
http://images.wikia.com/halo/images/...el_Rod_Gun.jpg (Sorry for the small image) Fuel Rod Gun
============
Clip size: (3-4 before overheating)
Damage in clip: xxxxxx- (Very high, 2+ kills in 3-4 shots)
Capacity: xxxxx-- (20-30 shots)
Damage per shot: xxxxxx- (Very high)
Firing rate: xxxx--- (Two shots a second)
Cool-down time: xx----- (Very slow)
Projectile speed: xxxx--- (Moderate)
Bullet magnetism: ------- (Random shots)
Effective range: XXXxx-- (Medium-short range)
Versitility: xxxxx-- (Very useful)
Overview:
Huge explosions, good rate of fire, definently a heavy weapon. It can take out crowds relatively quickly, and piss a lot of people off. Sometimes the shots won't kill, but they'll do a good ammount of damage and flip vehicles and whatnot.

Pistol comparisons
==================
Alot of debate has gone on about the M6 pistols, and due to that I'd like to compare the pistols used throughout the games.

M6D Pistol (Halo 1)

Firing rate: xxxxx-- (3 rounds a second)
Reload time: xxxxx-- (Fast)
Projectile speed: xxxxxxx (Instant)
Bullet magnetism: --xXx-- (Short spread magnetism)
Effective range: xXXXXx- (Short and long range)
Versitility: xxxxxx- (Extremely useful)
Overview:
This gun renders all of the other guns useless. Let's face it, no other gun is as useful and versitile as this one. With the range and power behind this gun, only someone new to the game would ever think about picking up a needler or a plasma rifle. Bungie has, on multiple occasions, admitted to regretting making the Halo 1 pistol as powerful as it is.
Bungie took a step in the other direction, only make the gun useless. No scope attatchment, extremely low effective range. When it takes more shots than there is in the clip to kill something, there's a problem. While it is dual-wieldable, the effective range renders it useless compared to the other weapons.
I feel this version is the most balanced out of the three. A lower firing rate, no scope, lower damage, but not enough of a decline from the original pistol to make it completely useless. While the firing rate is still a bit low, it is, in fact, dual wieldable, making for a three two-bullet-shot kill.

Re: My HPC weapon overview
all obvious statements but you make a good point nonetheless. all these factors should be considered whilst creating a new weapon, to create balance
IE: weapon with a high ROF, and high projectile volume cant be too powerful or ranged or it wont be balanced

Re: My HPC weapon overview
You have the Assault Rifle and Shotgun indicated as the same range, but listed as short-medium and short respectively. I prefer the shotgun over the Assault rifle for its effectiveness against vehicles, due to the fact that most of the shots will hit a large target that is a good distance away. I have been able to single-handedly kill banshees and warthogs at a range of 50 meters with the shotgun. I also disagree with your opinions on the effectiveness of plasma weapons, but that's your digression, not mine.

Re: My HPC weapon overview
The M6C does have its uses. I mean out of all the weapons I think that dual wield M6C's are one of my favorite combos. Its anti-BR capabilities (medium to short I would die if the BR user got a shot from far away) are helpful not to mention its ROF which can surprise enemies or at least down them quickly if you can aim. However it is somewhat useless compared to the D and G variants.

Re: My HPC weapon overview
Are you kidding me? The plasma pistol was one of the most effective weapons in the game. Halo 2, not as much. The plasma rifle same. They could take down an enimes shield almost instantly, leaving them open to a pistol shot to the head, or a short AR burst. I always use them..
other than that, very good job!

Re: My HPC weapon overview
There are a couple of things in there you failed to mention...
For example, the Needler is easily more effective than the pistol in long narrow tunnels, which almost every Halo map has. You can spray your magazine, retreat to reload, and do it again. With no room to dodge left or right, people become pincushions. The Needler is also a great weapon to have on small maps that feature sniping (Like no_remorse), for the same reason. Most snipers can't avoid the needles while still keeping their aim, so they'll have to dodge (usually falling off their perch) to avoid being asploded.
The Plasma rifle does far more damage than the Assault Rifle, and never has to reload if you pace your shots (same goes for the plasma pistol, only idiots spray and pray with plasma weapons). The Plasma Rifle actually makes a great weapon against Warthogs in Blood Gulch, as it gets their shield down in only a few shots, then you can switch to a Shotgun or Pistol to finish them off. It's also useful on Ice Fields for the same reason, and on smaller maps like Longest or Beaver Creek where a Pistol isn't all that practical. All it takes is getting the lead right.
The Plasma Pistol is another great anti vehicle weapon if a rocket launcher is not immediately available (I'm not even going to talk about the fail rod). One blast to get down their shields, and a Pistol or Shotgun to finish them. It's also, like the Needler, useful in close quarters (one charge shot and a melee is an instant kill, a very useful technique on the ladders of prisoner and sidewinder). It's also great on maps like beaver creek where an overshield is immediately available, as it can get a 400 % overshield in a banshee down in one hit.
While most of these are specialist uses, to me seeing a person be able to use the Covenant weapons effectively is far more impressive than just another pistol robot who knows how to click on your head.

wrong wrong wrong. I will agree the pistol is the best, but the plasma weapons are very very effective if used correctly. I have taken out people that are using a pistol with a plasma rifle and an AR much much faster than they could kill me.

Re: My HPC weapon overview
Plasma weapons are good against shields, human weapons are good against flesh.
A good strategy is to have a human weapon and a plasma weapon at all times, using the plasma weapon to take down that annoying (Though VERY helpful when you have it fully charged) shield, then switching to a human weapon to finish the job.
Of course, if that human weapon happens to be a sniper rifle, just fall back and snipe from a good perch, not getting up-close and personal with it.
I personally like to keep a Plasma Pistol and Shotgun on me, though the Shotgun may be switched for an Assault Rifle, Rocket Launcher, or Pistol.
Again, these tactics vary depending on the conditions around you on the battlefield.

Everyone likes to say that, but if you think about it for a second very rarely do you actually shoot at flesh with any weapon. Every enemy besides Jackals and Drones wear some form of armor . =\
Besides that it's horribly common knowledge that human weapons work well against unshielded enemies, so saying that doesn't really make you sound smart...

ok next time we play ill put 3 in your head and we will see who is right. the only covie weapon that i will ever touch literally is the needler on occasion, or the plasma pistol. other than that the things are useless...

"Other than that?"
There's the Needler, Plasma Rifle, and Plasma Pistol (fail rod still doesnt count because it fails)...
So basically you're just saying you hate the Plasma Rifle.

Re: My HPC weapon overview
really now. the most effective weapon (this only apply if: you are host, on xbox, or on LAN) is definitely the sniper. sniper can be use at long and short ranges with the same amount of power and accuracy. it has 4 shot clip and only 1 shot is needed for a kill. (occasionally 2) and it is EXTREAMLY effective in combination with the shotgun. a combo i like to call the snipzer-shotzy. for the reason that a no-scope to the chest then 1 to 2 blasts from a shotgun is a easy medium range kill. 1 or 2 shots from a sniper is a easy long range kill. and 1 shot from a shogun point blank or 2 shots short range is a easy short range kill. and if you would like to prove me wrong then i invite you to play me in a game on tenesity. ill host :D. my xfire is wankzta.
also about plasma pistol. you said use the overcharge only and that the single fire is useless..... NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE TARDED. firing 5 or 6 overcharges will take FOREVER to kill someone. a single overcharge and then a nice, well lead, and high ROF burst will kill them in ALOT less time than a bunch of overcharge shots. trust me i know. i play xbox halo alot and most maps on xbox you start with PP.
one more point. Xbox is a much better multilayer experience than HPC is. i will say the HPC is better in the fact of online and custom maps. but really, on xbox there is no LAG :eek:, everyone is on a truly even battlefield. which is what halo is all about. balance. :)

that is very true. the people who don't respect the plasma weapons are the people who don't think strategy is important. but it is. people who play halo 2 a lot think that also XD and for those of you who do. i laugh at you. :lol:
yes i am saying halo 1 is a better game than halo 2 is.
- rep me for it or flame me and your gonna get a nice long list of things that SUCKED about halo 2. starting with the FUCKING HUGE amount of auto aim in it. i know halo 1 had some auto aim but its actually so bad its annoying in halo 2.

Halo 3 > Halo PC/CE > Halo 2 > Your mom.
Halo 2 went really freaking insane with the magnetism and auto-aim, honestly. The netcode wasn't that great either, not being able to hit things from a distance without the red reticle off-host is kind of BS. Doesn't take much skill to kill people, but it takes a shit load of skill to get REALLY GOOD AND CONSISTENT at it.
Overall Halo 2 was way too close-range based. You can't snipe people from across Coag like you can Blood Gulch, and the BR's range is... well, not that great.

plasma rifle is definitely a good weapon but stun isn't very useful by itself. when you use if in combination with a team. then it can be. like for example have one guy with a plasma rifle and the other with a sniper. one guy stuns him and the other guy snipes or sticks him or something.:D

Nobody's going to do that though, save for probably CTF games (Which is just honestly treated like slayer with no kill limit), seeing as everyone's going to be going for the kill and not assists.

Why is that bad? There's no way to defend yourself from getting sniped across Blood Gulch, so it was really pretty bullshitty. And no, don't try to mention the Pistol, it only goes about halfway across gulch.

Well the only reason you couldn't hit people from across the map half the time would be due to the off-host problems, and the fact that the draw distance for characters was limited; you couldn't see people at a certain distance unless you zoomed in. Sort of unrealistic...
If it's one thing I liked about Halo 1 it's the "If you can see it, you can hit it" factor. The only problem was the fact that the sniper rifle and pistol both are a bit spammy, and the respawn time for the sniper and whatnot is nothing compared to H2's way of "If you have the gun it won't respawn," which basically made long-range in H1 a bit too easy.
Hence why I believe they should both have a lower rate of fire, and at least some recoil in the sniper. :p

no people wont do it in CASUAL games. but for competition games were you use voice chat over xfire or something, lan games were you can strategies better with teammates or even on xbox 4 vs 4, it would work very well to have people useing the weapons more "strategically"

yes and if you pre-start the accelerated fire on the needler you can do a lot of damage just poping in and out of cover.
