why, OH WHY didn't you make that BOX first, at least you would have not wasted all your time on making a more or less useless model.

theres limits to normalmapping.
a normalmap cant make a box MAGICALLY look like a gun by making a bad meshsmoothed model

again, because you've got no clue of what you're dealing with here, you're all wrong. a normalmap doesnt magically turn a 90 degree angle into a nice curve.

you seem to have no idea what normalmaps do, and WHY.
you need to research stuff more before you spend your time on making thigns like this. do the tutorials as the tutorials say you're supposed to do it. if it sais, make a BOX, then make a BOX, not a gun.
edit: also, the box in the minitutorial you posted is NURBS.
