It looks totally and utterly fucked up, though.
If only you could make them work properly and then make the snow surface collide with small objects only...
It's a pretty good song, but the music video makes the RHCPs look kinda gay.
As for the map, you've got to get some kind of contrails to follow you as you walk, like the tire marks left by a Warthog going through snow, only darker and [can you apply bumps to a decal] bumpmapped.

Snow has no collision, and the snow landscape is set over a plane that does have collision, I would guess.
Edit: If you want it to really work, Random, then you should tweak the traction settings of the underlying ground plane, so that you can't sprint a ridiculous 35 mph through a 4 foot-depth snowdrift, and you can actually believe you're moving through snow.
