Not initially, no. But when you combine it with a huge military, and then cover half a map with it, it just looks intimidating. Not even talking symbolically here, just the shape of it.

But the eggs and bacon just don't look intimidating. They don't have the profile for it. The Rising Sun looked intimidating. The Hakenkreuz looked intimidating. The Iron Cross looked intimidating. The Hammer and Sickle looked intimidating. Hell, even the various Arabic moons and stars look more intimidating.
