    Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")

Okay now that I've had a good go it's time for words

(note that this is my first time playing BF3; I've been holding off on preordering until I get my paycheck and I wasn't graced with an Alpha invite)

BF3 is fun. I like it. I want to play more when I'm done writing this, and I guess that's a positive. I've spent most of my time playing Operation Metro for reasons I'm sure you're all well aware of, and my overall takeway was, basically, "okay, cool." Obvious bugs aside (I'm assuming the glaring ones will be fixed), it runs smoothly on medium and looks great, feels great, and probably has the best audio design yet in a war shooter (or any shooter, really); but the underlying gameplay feels like a somewhat faster version of BC2, with various embellishments. This is not necessarily a bad thing - BC2 was fun as shit, but prone capabilities, fire modes, and more unlocks don't comprise the kind of massive leap I was (perhaps erroneously) expecting. I'd rather not comment on the map itself until I've played more rounds with competent teammates; on one hand, I'll have my attacking squad move through the tunnels, checking each others' backs, healing up, setting spawn points, and cutting our way through to the objective, which makes the map feel great; the next time, my squad will consist of wookies who sit and do nothing while the MCOM ticks away, and I'd rather not attribute the quick loss to the map when it could be due to imbeciles.

Caspian Border, however (at least all 40 minutes I played of it), kicks ass. So much ass. I haven't had this much fun with a military shooter since the first Modern Warfare. When you stick in all the vehicles, force the classes to make use of all their little specialties, and do it in a huge map with 64 players, BF3 is really something special - those 40 minutes have single-handedly sold me on this game. It feels bigger than CoD, bigger than BC2, and, despite being techincally smaller, it feels bigger than BF2. There are only so many ways I can say I love this game so I'll stop now, but most of the misgivings and "eh" things I felt about Metro simply left town once I stepped into the big leagues. I feel sorry for those console kids.

Another notable plus is the presentation; there's a coherence and consistency in the techno-blue motif they have going throughout the UI and music, and it all fades and slides with a slick and unique feel that gives the game an immediately recognizable character apart from its brethren, both in the series and the genre. I miss the full-blown orchestral theme, of course, but I love a game that puts the extra effort into a cohesive style.

My concerns are pretty much limited to the speed at which people die (a little too close to CoD imo), disorganization in a large team via the removal of a Commander role, and any bugs that might not be fixed by the time this thing ships, but that's a pretty small list amongst all the pluses. Maybe I'll think less of it after the new smell has worn off, maybe I'll like it even better with time, but at the moment, I can't think of a good reason not to throw down the cash for this as soon as I have it.

You were definitely hitting people who were already shot. The SV98 has also been confirmed as a non-1-shot-kill weapon (except for the head of course), so you had to have taken damage before he shot you every time.

Using the password that is sort of leaked every time it's changed. I've read that it is posted by Zh1nt0 in public places so I dunno. Just search for it on google using the last 24 hours. Ifafudafi posts the password in the thread title every time it's been updated.

Yeah I'm having log in issues as well. The servers are still unstable.

Jesus Christ, people. If any of you actually read the news section on the Battlelog, you'd get a heads up on when the Battlelog is under maintenance. It's not that the servers are unstable. The system came back online 22 minutes ago.
