My guess is a sticky gas pedal. The driver was afraid that they would've gone through the wall, so they veered left into the next best object.

Mostidiotspeople panic and stomp on whatever pedal their foot is on. I've seen it way too many times. The brake lights never go on and the car accelerates as soon as the driver feels a bump from the curb.
I admit, I've hit the curb at a relatively quick pace on occasion, but who would take that as an incentive to hit the gas?
