I didnt see them as a huge pain in the ass, they served their purpose in the beta. If someone was foolish enough to leave theirs switched on in the wide open spaces (which most of bf3 maps are) then they stuck like a sore thumb, but when it came to close quarter they could either be a life saver or a death trap. They did an excellent job of blinding enemies but they also could light up walls letting them know you where coming, and they would also blind your teammates so you had to get very good with the on/off button.
