Most available 5.56 ammo is 55 grain or M193. Also lots of SP ammo rolling around in the US.
there is no amount of facepalm.
Also yeah 5.56 can be pretty fucking deadly given that upon contact all of its energy is then transferred from the round into your organs as well as shrapnel. Where as most rounds that do a through and through can sometimes do less damage since the energy is transferred directly through and can do minimal damage to the body. The 7.62x54r doesn't usually do a clean through and through shot. The bullet itself for one is massive, usually weighing around 148gr to 160gr (5.56 is usually 55gr or 62gr), the cartridge as a whole is huge. And when it hits it blows shit apart, especially people.
Commercial ammo for the 7.62x54r can have 180gr and 200gr bullets, never seen anything higher. Also have you ever seen a 7.62x54r FMJ round wreck a deer or any other animal? It fucks their shit up. I have seen HP 7.62x54r, made me think how cruel it would be to shoot something with it.
On another note I want one of those American Mosin Nagants from Remington or New England Westinghouse (NEW) in a good condition but that will be a tough one to find.
E: Remember the difference between the 7.62x54r and 30-06? It's easy to point out why it is superior, another reason why Bannerman took Remington and NEW rifles and did conversions on them to accept 30-06 back in the 1920's I think it was then.

Anything with a soft- or hollow-point will. That's the point (lol). Bigger bullet diameter = more energy transfer. It also usually means a worse ballistic coefficient (mitigated by increasing length+changing the overall shape). A soft or hollow point allows you to increase diameter without actually increasing the diameter, therefore preserving the round's coefficient for the most part.
