Only because the design is made with thin walls and an internal metal frame in mind, not because wood is inherently fragile.

That's what I was getting at.

Only wood peices you could use on a real SCAR would be the stock, pistol grip, and possibly the lower receiver (unlikely). If you wanted you could replace the frount-set that holds the barrel and gas system together with wood but it wouldn't hold up as long as metal due to heat issues in those areas. So that would include the side and botton rails, as well as the silver portion in front of the receivers that you can see in my sig.

Now, the AR, on the other hand, can easily use wood versions of its plastic furniture. Actually, the whole gun can be manufactured by small shops in third-world countries if necessary, unlike its Kalashnikov adversary.

    Milled vs. stamped, ftw.

Many AKs of the milled variety are made on the Khyber Pass every year, and are mostly fairly functional.

I know the AK-47 Types II and III were milled. Type I was stamped, but it was not good stamping (very heavy).

One of the most beautiful guns, let alone AKs, that I have ever seen:

    Type III. Total boss.
