Were you in the house at the time? Could it have been prevented with a firearm? Is it more likely that the gun itself would have been stolen? There are many factors that go into home protection.

I was being intentionally vague. No, nobody was in the house at the time otherwise they would have run away (they hit another house around here recently, or so the Police say). And yeah, I still don't think it would be a good idea to have a gun in my house because it'd be likely that it could be stolen, too, if not properly hidden. Then again, if the ammunition is ever more well hidden than the gun, then it's not of much use to them. It was petty theft I guess. The whole operation must have been 3-5 minutes, but no longer. They busted in out front door and went straight up the stairs and into both my sisters' rooms. They cleaned out all the jewellery from their drawers (as well as my mom's drawers) and they took my sister's Lenovo Ideapad U260 that she bought just last Friday and a Nikon D3100 DSLR from my other sister's cupboard. Strangely enough they walked straight past my room. It's almost like they didn't even take a look inside it considering how my room has more electronics in it then the rest of the house combined. They were really rushing I guess and didn't want to take the time to unplug everything. Hell, they tried to take my sister's iMac too, but I guess they didn't want to take the time to unplug one wire. lmao, listen to this. One of my sister's rooms leads to the general bathroom on the top floor of our house. The jackasses busted open the door from my sister's room. They must have felt stupid after doing that and realizing it was just the other side of the bathroom considering how they seemed to want to get in and out as quick as possible. Well, at least they didn't take anything that is extremely expensive or irreplaceable.

As it stands our front door is fucked and there's no chance that we can leave it unattended until it is fixed.

Wow that really sucks man. That's never a fun feeling knowing that someone has been inside your house without you wanting them their. I would say get some pitbulls :P

Pitbulls vs armed robbers, WHO WILL WIN?!

As for hunting knives, get a good brandiname blade with a straight blade 4-6" long with a gut hook on the backside near the front. Those are the best gutting/skinning knives there are for hunting IMO. My Kabar works well for skinning but not for the gutting/interior work, it's to long for effective use inside the animal. Well, unless we're talking Elk/Moose since they're huge.

For cutting through the hip-bone I recommend a cordless Dewalt Reciprocating saw. Things work wonders.

I'm probably going to buy a Cold Steel if I buy a new knife. I have been thinking about getting into forging though, and just making some knives myself for whatever application I need.

Who says they were armed? Also, pitbulls/rottweilers aren't necessarily meant to fight the robbers, they are mostly meant to intimidate. You'd have to be some kind of crazy to break into a house where the moment you walk up to the door 2-4 big, very angry dogs are barking their heads off.

Not at all, I've never had issues with dogs or any kind of animal, they just don't scare me at all. The only animals that have ever phase me are grizzly bears and cougars, I don't understand why I'm so freaked out by cougars since I have no issues with lions or tigers. I even played with some full size lions and tigers before and they were only semi-captive haha.

That said, most dogs won't actually do anything to an intruder unless they're threatened or specifically trained to attack strangers (which is some kind of illegal, I'm sure). Dogs are nothing but a deterant, anyone that knows anything about dogs knows that so they're not a very good deterant either lol.

I had a dog that bit the shit out of the only home intruder we ever had. Her name was Ginger, and she died of doggy sickle cell disease :'(

    Re: Modacity shooters' thread

I was thinking about that an hour or so ago, too. I wonder if a dog or something would be a deterrent. I imagine that if the dog is one of those jumpy types that doesn't like new people, the robbers would leave out of fear of neighbours hearing the noise. However, my parents don't like having even domesticated animals in the house. If I was to have a pet though, it'd be a cat, not a dog. I like dogs, but some of them scare me. Well, not so much anymore, but when I was younger a dog attacked me (or so my stupid child brain thought). Na, it was just smelling me, but you know how it is when an animal runs up to you unexpectedly. Some of that must have leaked into my adult life. Cats are so cute and chill and fucking lazy. Just like me (minus the cute part as seen in my avatar ). That's why I like them.
