The Jackals weren't the problem in Halo 2. It was the Elites, especially since a single plasma rifle could fire at the same rate as a stationary plasma gun (the little purple ones) and they often had two. Combine it with tissue-paper-for-shields and...welp.

Dude I thought the Drones were the biggest pain in the ass. They could be anywhere and Plasma Pistols/Needlers hurt when it's 10 of them at once. Elites in Halo 2 Legendary were just too intriguing for me to be pissed by them. Outskirts had so many good Elite encounters because it had so many varieties of them in that one level alone.

Don't forget the Brutes walking damage sponges from The Gravemind onwards.

i never understood the frustration with brutes in halo 2. you just cap them in the head with the carbine, right? 1 or 2 shots to remove that little headpiece thing, then one more to finish them off. most of my difficulty came from vehicle battles and elite's shields.

i guess thats the problem ive always had with halo on legendary. youre basically forced to use a plasma pistol and a headshot-capable weapon throughout the whole game, because most of everything else just isnt effective, or doesnt last long enough (rockets, sword). its kind of upsetting when there are only 2 or 3 effective weapons in a game 20+ weapons to choose from.

at least in halo 1 i can think of a good use for every single weapon. halo 2 is pushing it, and most of the single hand weapons in halo 3 are absolutely useless. looking at you, magnum. it gets a little better with the online, but its still mostly dominated by the BR or DMR, followed by the shotgun, sniper rifle, and rockets.

i believe the term for what this leads to is "first order optimal strategy".

It wasn't so much that the Brutes were difficult individually as it was if they were in a cluster, went berserk, or were in Vehicles. The vehicle segments and berserk moments made me rage so hard.

Quarantine Zone on Legendary was also a huge pain in the ass.

Funny I just played outskirts on Legendary. I beat the Campagin once on legendary then was never bothered to play any of it again on that difficulty. The only ones I can actually have fun on are Outskirts, Delta Halo, and Uprising. The rest were just annoying as hell.

    Outskirts?

I always sped through that level. Get to the blind skull spawn at the start (not to pick it up but to be up there), roofjump to the sword, roofjump to the first loading zone, run to the ghost and boost through the rest of the level, preferrably with an empty sword as my secondary and a BR as my primary. Next level, I have an infinitely-charged sword and am pretty much set.

Yeah um.. once you get to the Brute missions there's little to no reason to carry a PP from that point on. A carbine takes out brutes easily from a distance, and Needlers/Sword are effective against both them and Elites.

Carbines were my weapon of choice against Brutes in close quarters like hallways. Even in a pack, you just spam at head level and you'll most likely kill most of them. In more open areas, the Needlers reigned supreme. There was nothing that a single long burst from dual Needlers would not kill, save for Hunters. RIP, dual Needlers.

oh yeah i forgot about the dual needlers. those were ridiculous. but still, thats just halo 2, and even then, whatever headshot weapon you were using is still just as effective on brutes. move into halo 3, where they reworked brutes to have shields, and a plasma pistol will serve you through the whole game except the flood parts.

I just used the shotgun on Brutes in Halo 3 because there was always one available.
