The high-pitched wine of a palsma weapon makes sense, because of the electric components and the high-voltage flowing through the magnets. The "whoosh" makes sense, because you are hurtling a blob of ionized gas at fairly high speed (though I'll admit, the Halo plasma rifles are as laughably slow as Star Wars blaster plasma bolts).

first of all, i prefer the sounds of the halo 2 plasma rifle, because it sounded like there was machinery inside the gun, creating friction to fire the pulse. halo 1 sounded like magical pixie dust. second of all, if you have a 7 yr old kid you REAALLY need to stop playing halo

Depends on how close he is. If he's right behind me hell yah that thing's gonna make me run though it'd be too late by then. What the irony is is that the Halo 3 AR sounds like a pea-shooter an yet it makes the Ma5B laughable.

yea, but with burst fire the h1 ar can be useful at midrange, except it doesn't hav that much power, h3 ar sounds kinda weird but it's got uber power.

o and one more thing, someone please answer this for me
when is the SPv2 coming out? i kno it says the end of month, but i'm a bit skepticle.........lik end of the month as in may 31? or end of the month as in after CMT finishes everything?
and if the CMT already finished everything, can't you guys release it earlier? some of us are DIEING to play it.

Dude, the Plasma Rifle has no moving parts other than the fins that extend when it cools down. You don't need gears, springs, levers, etc. to create an electromagnetic field or to heat up air to a plasma state. Therefore, your argument is nullified. No friction there, no friction required.

No, I don't have any kids. I am only 16. However, my dad, who has me and 3 others, including an 8 year old, used to play Halo until he had to start working overtime.

It makes more sense that way. The prongs ionize and heat up the air in between them, creating a plasma, and accelerate it electromagnetically outwards towards a target as a plasmoid (Wiki that term if you need to know what it is), and the plasmoid's inertia and magnetic fields within itself hold it together while en-route to the target.

The way you have it set up makes no sense at all. That electric field between the prongs being the connector would be totally pointless, as it would be more practical and efficient to have a hard-wire inside, rather than a device outside that invites dirt, grime, and malfunction. However, I do agree that the battery is in the bottom, but my theory is that the top-half is for cooling.

As far as how it should sound, I don't know, but I do know it sure as hell wouldn't sound like it did in Halo 2. That sound does not correlated to anything a magnetically fired gun would make, and plasma does not create sounds on its own. If I had to take a guess, I would say it would sound sort of like the Halo 1 version, only with more of a "whoosh" sound as the plasma is flung out towards the target by the electromagnets.
Now that you mention it, it does make more sense that way. I loved the firing effect in Halo 2, with the up-down-up-down effect. They kinda ruined it in Halo 3, to be honest. Plasma bolts from any plasma weapon have gotten smaller progressively throughout the Halo series. They're really damn tiny now.

Yeah, so I heard. They should make it look (and sound) more like the Halo Wars plasma. That would be sweet. Not to mention, it would match Halo 3 better.

You mean like when it hits something? yeah, that would be better.

Yes. And have a similar matching sound for the fire effect.

you sat that as if it were actually POSSIBLE to shoot plasma bursts. it isnt, so what do you know?

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)

Actually it is. We just don't have the tech today to do it, and atmosphere tends to interfere with the concept.

The plasma is generated from the gases of the atmosphere in between the prongs, and is held in place while it builds by magnetic fields. The plasma is then shoved along its merry way by another magnetic field towards the target. Now, the matter of "how does the plasma hold together" pops up. Well, there are two ways. The first and most likely is that a current is induced into the plasma to coax it into a plasmoid state, which can hold itself together without any outside help. The second, and less likely, is that the gun emits a magnetic bubble, but if that were the case, then you'd have plasma bolts going haywire when more than one plasma weapon is used in the same area.

All of this happens faster than you can blink, by the way. Otherwise, we'd see the weapon charge for each shot.

So, how much do you really know?
