Is it the tiling, or the lack of anti-aliasing? The latter is an unavoidable problem in CE.

Is it the tiling, or the lack of anti-aliasing? The latter is an unavoidable problem in CE.

I KNEW Halo was missing something! If only, if only...

But anyway, it's coming along quite nicely. I think the tiles on the bridge are cool, but the Master Chief's armor is a little... green. But oh well, I'm really looking forward to what we'll see and what improvements have been made over SPV1.

EDIT: Oh yeah... what is the PP beam in the second and third pictures doing? It looks like it hit the pillar, kind of zig-zagged its way around it, and then ended off in a straight path.

Actually the bridge to me look like one of the halo 3 multiplayer maps with the bridge on the multiplayer vidoc

They're Halo 3 textures replicated from Ephitaph.
The only reason you don't like it is because the difference in detail between the custom textures, and... every other texture on the bridge.
And the fact that in Halo 3 they were uberbumped, which brought out the detail, the dimension, and the color, even.


EDIT: Oh yeah... what is the PP beam in the second and third pictures doing? It looks like it hit the pillar, kind of zig-zagged its way around it, and then ended off in a straight path.
I thought that too, but it's just a plasma splash decal on the edge of the wall, which gives the illusion of a curving contrail.

Edit: So... I see the block hands were never reworked.

That first pic is ub3r h0t. Good job. But i would have to say that the bridge texture does look a little overwhelming. I think making the tiling a little less would make it look better but who knows.

Amazing, amazing work. The re-textured cliff walls give off a WHOLE new feeling to that level. Kind of like a gorge in the rain forest. Sooooo cool. Awesome with the floor textures, although its kind of "alien" to the rest of the scene (no pun intended:p). The shield effect looks kind of wierd though, almost like its in different pieces. Well, anyway. Awesome work. Keep it up.

Well, if we wanted to redo the hands, using real fingers, we would have to re-animate the whole h1 MC, cinimatic anims too. Or mak ehim have fists, which would look pretty stuipid.

That...bridge...is...too...amazing...

And do marines use rocket launchers now? There's two rockets looking to be chasing a Banshee.
And the reason the pelican looks dull, is cos it's pretty much the only thing in there that's untouched from Bungie...CMT content just makes standard H1 content look boring :XD:

And as much as I love the MA4K, PLEASE don't tell me you've replaced the Assault Rifle (don't care which one) as the main weapon MC holds in cutscenes...NEVER replace the AR in ANYTHING...
And dear god I hope you haven't replaced the AR in spawns...

The bridge texture looks... off. I think that the gap between each "tile" is too thick.

The chief uses different weapons in differn't cutscenes.

The pelicans are all new, although the shaders are a bit boring. I'll work on them and show the new ones later today.


The SPv1 Biped had hands.
And they sucked bit time, the gun would just stick to his palms. We know what we're doing when it comes to bipeds now. The SPI is the 5th biped we've done.

ok, nice, but i still say the tiles are to far apart.
you couldn't make regional damage on the wraith so that you can HS the driver then drive it?

what happens when the gold elite drops his duels? spawns 2 guns?
does that mean that theirs gona be more eneimies duelwielding? will you be using kenny's duel script? (i assume not but that'd be cool if you could duel too).

how hard is this going to be? compared to the default campaign. and how crazy will this be? (i mean, theirs duelwielding gold elites and wraiths charging up the beach ffs..)

I'm not sure the tiles are too far apart, I just think they need a deep overlaying bump on the grooves to complement the black lines.

Its like a new campaign, just on the old maps. KICKS ASS!!! For a comparison, anyone here a C&C fan? Got Generals Zero Hour? Download the Shockwave mod. It basically does the same thing, with new units, new AI, and a massive boost in graphics. Just wiki Shockwave mod for info and the link

As much as the awesome high-res textures look, I think you're trying a bit too hard to make it look like a 360 game...Like that last pic would just look weird in game, with all standard textures around, and one really nice looking high-res wall texture randomly there.
The bridge is perfect, cos it covers most of your surroundings (when you'll be playing on it), and really gives a good feel, like you're playing an early Halo 3, but random high-res textures like the last picture aren't too useful..

gah, wtf is with the bumps for the bridge tiles *fixes* and btw, Dole is my new fav forum member, he sees stuff. Yes, they're tiles from the halo 3 Map Epitiha or watever it is. You see them in the latest vidoc. I just fucked up the bumps, tis why they look shit there.

I find it fascinating that in 500 years, military arms manufacturers will discover that gun sights can function with higher accuracy when the positions of the aperture and the blade are switched.

That brute is also lacking normals and dynamic lighting. Not really in a comparable state to halo 2/3 brutes when it's got a crap rig, and this is halo 1.

Far as I know, it's not cel shaded. I think it's just....i dunno but Masterz, that skin you have on there looks like an old one, and not like this one I sent you a little while ago:

idk i think that the brute looks too much like a dinosaur and not enough like an ape. maybe if there was a bit more fur instead of bare skin...? idk or maybe make the model a bit more hunched over.

EDIT:aww hell yeah that skin looks hella awesome. but the model still needs to be a little less straight-backed.

yeah, just make the hair the same way you do the grass, attach it to th biped and tada, you got hair.................the brute looks real goofy, look as if the head is a little skinny, makes it look like it's too fdar from the shoulders, you guys tend to have that problem.... or maybe it's just the picture =/

I think the reason this brute looks weird is because all the hair on it is actual strands of hair anot not a whooly teddy bare with bumpmaps like the H2 brutes were used to..

The spec-ops hunter's weapon looks out of place compared to the rest of his body. The armor is all banged and battered, and here's this shiny unscratched weapon. (it also looks a little cartoon-like, at least to me.)

AWESOME!!!! [/sarcasm] Actually, by the time you finish reading this, it'll be closer to being done and released.:D

Anyway, back on topic, why do I see the outline of a needler in the blood, but no needler? (looking at the very faint HUD message reading "hold 'e' to pick up <needler image>"?) Someone should darken the HUD message for that level, even if it's only a little bit. (or make the outline a tad bit darker)
Awesome, no more "missing string" things popping up whenever you can do an action!

The names have patterns; I guess the developers at Bungie named them because it allowed them to sort out what map had what in it. :)

No. There is no reason for him to be in Halo 1's singleplayer. And there will nto be gravity hammers either, due to time constraints. (Animating brutes for a whole new weapons set = not fun.)

I like the differences. It shows that there actually WAS some difference in the architecture of the different Halos. (compare the doors in the library/control room of both Alpha and Delta Halos, for example). And you're comparing the floor of a room to the surface of an extension bridge. We don't even know where said room is located in the Halo universe.

And I think it's a good job, seeing as CMT's gone off of mere pictures and a few weapon descriptions, and created the models/bitmaps. (The fuel rod gun on the spec-ops hunter could use a re-skinning, though. It looks out of place compared to the rest of it, imo.)

Ummmm, from what i know, there redoing most of the AI because there adding new bipeds, i.e. Brutes, New hunters, different classes of half of the characters, S-III's, and a few others. So it would only make sense.

One thing that I disliked about v1 was that they replaced almost all marine allies with the spartan bipeds which seemed to fire massive amounts of grenades. I liked the fact that my allies were no longer completely useless, but I missed the 'personality' of the marine allies (dialogue and different AI actions).
In one of the screens (Silent cartographer) I see marines are back, do you think we can expect AI improvements for them, such as improving their firing rate with the AR (3 bullet bursts just never did cut it)?

The human one is great at mid- to close range, I don't think it was intended to be a distance weapon. And it's an assault carbine, unlike the covie one. If it's the covie carbine you want, wait until H2Vista comes out, I'm sure CMT will do a custom carbine then. (and make it look better than Halo 3's :D )

Just because it says carbine in the name, does not put it in the 'carbine' box. the MA5K is very different from the Covie Carbine, extremely different.

half the clip, a scope, semi auto. there is not much that is similar.

I just want to say that, according to the books, the MA5K is a Assault Rifle, and not a carbine, but it doesn't really matter if CMT decided to change it a bit from what it was in the book. I noticed that in the video, from 1:44 to 1:48, the brutes seem to have a tail-like thing on the back. Is this just a bug or is it supposed to be there?

I have been enjoying them more than the original campaign for HaloPC. Also, Im pretty stoked about what your coming up with for the v2. The teaser looked great from my point of view. Im not a mapper, or modder, or anything else. But what I see is really good stuff. I think the only thing that I could want for the single player maps is some kind of coop. People I know that do mods and maps for halo say its either impossible, or impractical. Honestly, I dont know, just my 2 cents worth. Thank you for the effort you guys are putting into this.

Yea, there really setting the standard for what a good halo mod is. As far as a coop mod, i think you would have to convert the map into a MP map, and re-do a bunch of the netcode and stuff. Basically, it takes more time than its worth. But with H2vista, there's probably gonna be online coop(*crosss fingers*). Never know.

I'm wondering about that too. I could almost swear I saw one in Spv1, but now I think I was hallucinating. The burn damage should be relatively low since it is mentioned in the Field Guide. It has a high rate of fire, so it should make up for the damage.

I'm wondering about that too. I could almost swear I saw one in Spv1, but now I think I was hallucinating. The burn damage should be relatively low since it is mentioned in the Field Guide. It has a high rate of fire, so it should make up for the damage.

Ive been lurking this forum now for a while. One thing I have to say about the single player maps from CMT is that they are awesome! I have been enjoying them more than the original campaign for HaloPC. Also, Im pretty stoked about what your coming up with for the v2. The teaser looked great from my point of view. Im not a mapper, or modder, or anything else. But what I see is really good stuff. I think the only thing that I could want for the single player maps is some kind of coop. People I know that do mods and maps for halo say its either impossible, or impractical. Honestly, I dont know, just my 2 cents worth. Thank you for the effort you guys are putting into this.
RevordNot one hundred percent impossible, just extremely impractical. Every play Area 53? That's a campaign-ish map with scripted encounters, and other players may join. Unfortunately, most of it doesn't sync at all, which makes it unplayable with others.

Yeah, that corona was the Energy Sword's crowning beauty. It was a shame to see it go in Halo 2, especially when it looked so nice in the E3 demo.
I guess they wanted to emphasize the fact that the plasma was self-contained within the magnetic field.

I sound very picky, but I think that making the sounds as top-notch as they can be will make CMT's mod much more enjoyable. Are you guys going to replace the Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle's sounds with the ones from Halo 3? For example, converting the video file to an audio, then cutting out the specific gun sound in goldwave, then sending it through tool? Personally, those new sounds are much more crisp than before, wouldn't you guys agree? Unless of course, cutting the sounds from Bungie's betalicious video and using it in CE is illegal... ;_;

But the sounds are still almost entirely unrealistic...:downs: WTF is this crappy pinging noise on the BR55, and the double clap sound on the MA5C and SMG? Bullets make a clean, crisp, staccato report, unlike what is portrayed in video games. I mean, yeah, sure, full auto is going to have a lot of sounds, but you should still be able to hear a clean crisp report for each round, not the mushy noise you get from the BR55 and M7 SMG in Halo 2, or the MA5B in Halo 1. Outdoors, it should pop then echo, and inside, it should be a loud-azz bang, varying depending on the size of the room.

If you want to know what the MA5C should sound like, go shoot the M24 sniper rifle in Battlefield 2...both the MA5C and the M24 fire the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, so it should be almost the same (albeit with slight variations due to barrel length, and action shape, flash hiders (which the MA5C and M24 both lack), and the type of operation used on the gun (gas-operation on MA5C, manual bolt-action on the M24)).


Sorry, I've been itching to say that about video games for a long time. Graphics and game play aside, it is rare that you get good firearm sound effects from a game. BF2 and the original Red Orchestra mod are the only ones to ever get it right in my experience.

the br sounds are absolutely amazing. i love those sounds. i have yet to hear the smg sound alone (without that damn spiker that everyone uses all the time).

They make plenty of noise. Actually, a P90 is louder than the M7 (Halo SMG, for those of you not familiar with all of the designations of the Halo universe).

Have you ever fired a real gun, of decent caliber? That, my friend, sounds so much cooler than even the Halo 2 shotgun (which has one of the coolest sounds of all the Halo weapons). Battlefield 2 is not enough to make an accurate assessment.

And a great gun with a lame sound only sounds intimidating once it has a reputation built up. And there are always n00bs who don't know better.

However, I think we can all agree that the Halo 2/3 plasma rifle sound effect is quite a piece of work...that statement being associated with a negative connotation.

I don't know, I have to agree with him. It actually sounds like it should be what that gun would sound like. Clear something up for me will you? On the plasma rifle there is a metal strip behind the two plasma points. I always figured that this was some kinda of magnetic propulsion system. The energy (plasma) would gather at the front, and then this strange plate would send a short burst of electricity through it launching a small plasma bolt forward. Just an Idea...:rolleyes: They need books for Halo, just like the ones they make for Star Wars, where they describe the mechanics of all the vehicles and technology of the movies.....:XD:

That was my theory as well. They've actually changed it for Halo 3. The plasma fires from the top segment, instead of from in between the two glowing prongs. This leads me to believe that the bottom portion is the battery, connected to the main part of the weapon via electrical field between the two prongs. Someone needs to make an animation for an estimated plasma rifle battery reload. This principle works with either iteration of the plasma rifle, if you think about it.

since we are on the subject of sound i am curious as to why in spv1 durring the beach assault did the background noise stop when all the battle rifles were being fired? and it happens in other places too when there are alot of environmental sounds some wont be played. and the AA rocket launcher, all it did was click. i kept on hoping that it would atleast whoosh but it never did.

That is asinine, no offense. I think that is a glitch (it did this with the Heretic Leader in Halo 2 as well, but it obviously came out from in-between in first person)...it should be coming out from between the prongs. It makes more sense that way. The prongs ionize and heat up the air in between them, creating a plasma, and accelerate it electromagnetically outwards towards a target as a plasmoid (Wiki that term if you need to know what it is), and the plasmoid's inertia and magnetic fields within itself hold it together while en-route to the target.

The way you have it set up makes no sense at all. That electric field between the prongs being the connector would be totally pointless, as it would be more practical and efficient to have a hard-wire inside, rather than a device outside that invites dirt, grime, and malfunction. However, I do agree that the battery is in the bottom, but my theory is that the top-half is for cooling.

As far as how it should sound, I don't know, but I do know it sure as hell wouldn't sound like it did in Halo 2. That sound does not correlated to anything a magnetically fired gun would make, and plasma does not create sounds on its own. If I had to take a guess, I would say it would sound sort of like the Halo 1 version, only with more of a "whoosh" sound as the plasma is flung out towards the target by the electromagnets.

And the Halo 2 one sounded like a cheap plastic "laser gun" kind of toy that you buy your seven-year old kid to keep him or her occupied outside while you do your work.

The high-pitched wine of a palsma weapon makes sense, because of the electric components and the high-voltage flowing through the magnets. The "whoosh" makes sense, because you are hurtling a blob of ionized gas at fairly high speed (though I'll admit, the Halo plasma rifles are as laughably slow as Star Wars blaster plasma bolts).
