It's worth getting for the online co-op or for a nice nostalgia trip if you haven't played H1 in a while.

More or less this. It's also a nice buy if you fathom a good representation of how technology has changed over the decade. Though no new physics or improved animations (they did a very bad job), environments and graphical overlays have taken incredible leaps forward. If anything, this is apparent in The Truth and Reconciliation level piece.

Not really, but I see what you mean in terms of vehicles since that can greatly affect their mobility. I mean in the relationship between animations and physics.

Updating the vehicle physics would have ruined the vast majority of cool tricks you can do as well as destroying the nostalgic feel of them.

Saber. How can you make a menu this bad Saber. Interactive (heh).
It's made with Scaleform technology. That is, Flash. Selecting menu shit is too sensitive. Can't be my controller's fault as not other game tweaks out when navigating menu options.

Use both analog and dpoop. Both give sensitivity issues that I don't experience with any other current games (Saints Row, Rocksmith, AC, to name a few).
To put in meme form:
Top: user selects down
Middle: <image of HA10 menu>
Bottom: moves two spots down

tl;dr of Halo: Anniversary as a game is this:
It looks better than the original, but it isn't as polished. It wins only through sheer strength, rather than through finesse.

The only really worthwhile addition is the online co-op, which is a major one. The remastered soundtrack and graphics just don't do a very good job of keeping with the atmosphere and tone of the original, which is a big thing for me. Actually, they make it feel more similar to Halo 3 than anything else. The new graphics are pretty though, I'll give them that.

IMO, the pistol is a bit too easy to use compared to how it was in the Xbox version. More Magnetism or Autoaim maybe? I think it may be firing faster too, unfortunately.
In other words, I die a lot faster from this pistol compared to the Xbox pistol. Either way, 3sk doesn't really work well in this game for this pistol.

If anything, it's made me like the needler more simply because it's turned into a shootout between 3sk Fast-Pistols. The Needler is the only thing fast enough to kill anyone in anniversary mode besides the pistol or rockets. The melee system is also shit now.

Really? The pistol in Halo 1 had absolute rediculous amounts of auto-aim in comparison to Reach's. You could hit somebody half-way across Blood Gulch. With a red crosshair even. That's a fuck load of auto-aim range.

@Mookz: Yeah, I'm not sure what the difference is. Hell, it may just be where the crosshair is on the screen and increased firing rate. IIRC the pistol on its own is incredibly inefficient against Elites, especially on harder difficulties when enemy shields and health are ramped up.

it was mostly like that in CE.. though moreso in reach, probably because all of the other weapons are still nerfed as shit. They didn't even bring back 2x zoom on the sniper, which was what made it so damn useful in CE.

If you think the H1 Pistol is unfair then you have no idea what you're talking about. The Pistol is the definition of fair because everyone spawns with one. All other weapons can be used over the Pistol when appropriate. Run around in an open field with a close quarters weapon like the AR and you'll get what's coming to you for being an idiot.
And the Anniversary MP Pistol isn't even slightly like the H1 Pistol.

Except that even in close quarters the pistol is still better. The problem is one of balance, even if everyone else spawns with one, it is the single weapon that wins in almost every single situation and discourages weapon diversity, barring extreme long range, and ultra close range. Also, the Anniversary MP pistol is very much like the H1 pistol, just a little less godlike, it has more bloom and cannot fire automatically, but beyond that it is the exact same.

@Bobble: The Anniversary MP pistol is evil at close range, really feels unbalanced as it is. It's way too easy to get a kill without leading to offset the power a bit and using anything short of a Needler or Rocket Launcher is pointless. You seemed to have missed the posts where we talked about the pros and cons of all the weapons and why the pistol ISN'T the best weapon for every situation. I typically prefer the assault rifle at close ranges when a shotgun isn't present, as it has the wonderful behavior of devouring health and shields. If I want to be a troll and catch someone off guard, I'll pepper them at a distance with the plasma rifle, stunning their movement then close in with a melee to finish them off.
This is of course Halo Custom Edition...not Reach. Feh.

No... it doesn't, unless the Anniversary playlists changed a lot since I played them. When I played it, the Pistol shot slow as fuck, still had bloom, still had only 8 shots, still had shithouse accuracy. Also considering I have always had a less than stellar internet connection, I always have had to play with a ridiculous lead when using the pistol or sniper.
Seriously, play maps other than Blood Gulch. Christ.

Im going to assert that I have played the shit out of CE, for the last 5 years. I know it doesn't play anything like the original game in normal play-lists. It plays closer in the Anniversary playlists because of the inclusion of the 3sk pistol and the changes in gravity, melee damage, and speed. The only thing I said was almost the same is the pistol. Besides the bloom difference, as well as no automatic fire, it is basically the exact same weapon. Also, unless I played a completely different game, most everyone used the pistol in PC for almost every situation. Some used shotguns, some used snipers, but for about 80-90% of the players that I have played with over the last 4 or 5 years of playing the game, the pistol was almost always the weapon of choice. Me poo-pooing the people here over nit-picking was specifically about the graphics and such in CEA. There was really very little discussion of gameplay after it was confirmed that it would be the same as the original game.

But it's not. It can't ever be. It can't ever be because of hit-scan, it can't ever be because of a wrong rate of fire, it can't ever be because the hit-boxes on the players are different, and it can't ever be because the aim-assist mechanics are different. It doesn't even remotely emulate the first game, comparing both games Xbox to Xbox.
Oh, and then there's you claiming that the pistol is the go-to weapon in Halo. Yes, yes it is. I'm not going to refute that. But what about the other games? It's either the Battle Rifle or the DMR. They all have their "pistol" and it is just as OP, if not more so, in the other games. Now, I'm not sure if you are complaining about the OP pistol or not, but if you are, stop right there. We've had OP pistols since the very beginning. The only change is that now it has infinite range (DMR/BR). Have you ever LANed with H1X? Because that's what I'm comparing to, not Halo PC/Custom Edition.
Now, don't take this the wrong way. I actually like the bloom mechanic and I think they should have left that part alone. It actually would have done a better job of emulating the original pistol if they had left Bloom intact, gave us 12 rounds, and 3sk. I, personally, never made 3-shot kills like "bang, bang, bang" in Halo, they were always "bang, bang....bang......bang" at best.

We're not posting about Reach here, but I think this is relevant. This is quoted from a PM I sent to someone else

Name me one FPS out there where a particular, all purpose weapon isn't used primarily by most players. You can't. Having an all purpose weapon is necessary so that players always have something to defend themselves with in any kind of situation. What makes the weapon balance work in a game like Halo is in how well the other weapons play off the primary weapon. Take Halo 1 for instance. Every weapon other than the Pistol has its role and gets used over the Pistol when appropriate. I even made a whole post about this in another thread.

Assault Rifle: Sidearm to the pistol. Use this as a finisher when you empty your pistol mag in close quarters. Also effective at close range against vehicles.
Shotgun: Other than the Rocket Launcher, the best weapon for taking on vehicles at close range. Capable of 2 or 3 shotting most vehicles, can also be used to engage infantry in tight spaces and around corners.
Sniper Rifle: Used for sniping, obviously. Also makes a good alternative to the Pistol for general combat in the hands of a sufficiently skilled player.
Rocket Launcher: Versatile and extremely powerful, limited only by slow projectile speed and low ammo. Use to quickly take down vehicles at any range, and to engage groups of infantry at any range from close to extreme.
Plasma Pistol: Highly effective against fully loaded vehicles. A single plasma pistol overcharge will lower the shields of ALL vehicle occupants, allowing them to be quickly killed with pistol fire or a single grenade. Also useful if you know an enemy has the overshield, and as a quick melee kill at close range.
Needler: Deadly on narrow bridges (like those on danger canyon and infinity) and in narrow hallways. Can also be used against unaware snipers for the lulz.
Plasma Rifle: Only really of use against vehicles at close to medium range. Can also be used as a quick burst to melee. Probably the weakest weapon.
At any rate, weapon variety isn't what's killing Reach. It's the weak weapon damage that utterly prevents a single player from holding his own against multiple enemies without superior equipment. Compare the time for a Pistol 3 shot (or even a 5 shot) with the time it takes to pump 5 DMR shots into someone's head. It's just math, there's no way for the one player to come out on top unless his enemies are phenomenally stupid.
See, the fast kill speed (not instant, it's not counter-strike) and highly effective spawning equipment are what made Halo. Compare it to any other FPS of the time, like say Quake 3. In Quake 3 you spawn with the almost worthless Machine Gun and 100/25 health. You don't stand the slightest chance straight out of spawn against someone with 100/200 and a BFG.
That's where Halo was different. The Pistol put everyone on even footing and gave the lone player the ability to handle any encounter. It's also the secret ingredient that's missing from Halo Reach, and why my distaste for that game runs so high. The way Reach is designed is so restrictive, so slow, so randomized, so BORING to me. It's fine for people who just want to kill eachother online and don't really care about quality game design, but it really irks me when people take something that was designed from the ground up to be newbie friendly and try to defend it as a serious competitive platform.
Bit of a rant, but still. The Pistol isn't just a go-to. It pretty much made Halo good.

Since this isn't HBO, where people will blow a gasket over "spoiled" easter eggs (even though it's their own fault for looking) I'm going to post about this here. Because I hate you all. Die in a fire :).
So apparently there are some Kinect easter egg commands...
I looked at the Kinect data and found some others, but they don't seem to be registered to do anything.
They are:
frag out
fire in the hole
ah ha
that plasma
fuck
shit
crap
faggit
forgot
closet
right here parker
I don't have a Kinect so I can't say for sure but those all appear to be unregistered commands (and they were added in the TU, they're not in the stock game)

For people using a mic, at least. I've given up on trying to use it in BC2 on the 360, and there is no other game that really requires it.

DLC should give us an additional seven skulls and a TU should support them (as well as fix Cortana's face).
I'd love to see IWHBYD and Cowbell enter the mix.

Sorry to bump this thread from the depths of hell, but I felt that the purpose behind the terminals should be posted here.
At the end of each video is a five-letter code in what are the Forerunner symbols from Halo Wars.
Be sure you are signed into xbox.com, bungie.net, or any other site that has a Windows Live ID sign-in. After you are signed in, head on off to the Terminal Page and type in each code. You will recieve 7000 Cr in Reach for each code, obviously totaling to 70,000 Cr.

I didn't know it worked on the website, but if you log onto Halo Waypoint on the 360, press X, and enter the buttons according to the color scheme, then you can enter those icons that way.
Basically, it gives you 100,000 cR and unlocks the 11th terminal.

If you are having trouble accessing the Terminal page, select the drop-down arrow next to your gamertag on the top of the screen.
Click and hold the Career Overview tab and pull your mouse all the way to the right. Once the terminal link is revealed, click the middle arrow button and head off to the Terminal.

What Dark said. You can't enter the codes unless you've found them in Halo Anniversary. The game must log it and then tell Waypoint. Maybe through achievements? But yeah. Cause I had missed a few and couldn't enter them.
Now, you could look up their location, but some are still not super easy to find.
