I prefer the second one, since it's much more Halo-like, and would fit much better into the Haloverse.

I wanted spartans to have a more futuristic look, on the subject of messy, its a simply greyscaled concept to get across the image of what it is, basic shapes, nothing too fancy and only took a grand total of 20 minutes.
I hated blocky spartans, they just never did it for me. Also I can not add much variation to the normal spartan armor as its been raped to hell and back by everyone else before I even got to this forum, so I have to make do with making something a little more new. Right now I am trying to keep the halo feel, while adding something completely new, trying to find inspiration on google.

HL2 citizens have the faceposing range of a brick. It's either very subtle or they look like they just stepped out of The Idiots of Garry's Mod. The only characters who have tolerable faceposing are the main ones, particularly Alyx. I don't want to ruin the picture with a grin that would put a chimpanzee to shame or an angry face that looks like it just stepped out of Loony Tunes, so I keep it fairly neutral.
That came out wrong, What I was trying to say is that the detail on it doesn't look like something that would be on a spartan. And it seems to cluttered. I don't see much wrong on the UMP. Would you care to clarify?

Wait, is that what you used for your modeling reference? Never use something that low-res. Also, please tell me you have other references too. A few side shots and several from different perspectives work best as you can properly work out proportions and such.

K, was making sure you had better references than that pic you showed. Anyway, I realize it's the low poly model, but if it doesn't look like an ump, then it doesn't. I'm not around guns often enough and I don't model them often enough to be able to tell you what's wrong with your model. Just wait for snaf to reply or something.

It's too thick, too boxy, and the random jaggedness makes no sense. Forerunner architecture is elegant, that's not.

Should've added some terrain and a driver and maybe some stuff hanging down to show animations for movement, because without any land marks or anything but the tires bouncing, it looks like its just hopping in one place, then keels over from a heart attack at the end. To be honest reminded me of some add kids I see around the school.

Looks like you're missing the button that you press to pop the top cover loose, as well as the clasp for the upper forend

White speckles... I know it's supposed to be the shiny-ness of it, but it's all pixelated; doesn't blend well when you look at it too long...
Ill render it at 1680 x 1050 over night with your crit. The Vray sun is what made the speckles appear. Ill widen the spec and have the DOF blur it a bit.

Its forerunner on my mind, but that pole that extends from the roof to the ground annoys me
Too detailed? No. Too organic? Yes. Forerunner architecture is largely angular, that's far too curvy to fit. If anything, that's nearly Covenant.
Crap yeah, forerunner stuff is detailed. I just clicked in Lol. It does seem strange. Part forerunner and part covy in my eyes.

Its the boxes thats making it not Covenant. Also one thing odd about Halo PC/CE is that the human structures, have forerunner properties in it.

In the middle, put a Beam Emitter structure to show that beams shoot out of it.
Still not Forerunner. It's hard to describe, but think in triangles. 30-60-90 triangles would be good there.

Well I started on some arbiter esque armor, and I wanted yalls opinion on where to go with this, as since I have finished the shoulder set, I want to know anything I can improve on beforehand before moving onto the main chest.

The concepts for the Spartans did not require arms or legs as we already have those decided, so yes I did finish those, they only wanted head and chest armor.

Should be a continous piece in place of the gap with those circles, and the tall end doesn't look Forerunner at all. Looks closer to human design than anything.

What you have is way too, well, un-uniform.
What I mean is that the forerunner have a flow to their architecture. Just about everything they built served a purpose. The bit that you made seems like it'd have the laser thing shoot out of the middle.

Good but your overall shading seems wrong, the armor or whatever it may be, has no depth whatsoever.
Ok, I will work on that, guessing that more contrast in the shading will give it more depth.
