I'll be a part of your team, too, Korny.
You could probably pull some strings and get Louis Wu to mention us over at HBO. That'll get us some hits. =D
E: We could call ourselves "Alphabet Soup" for short. =P
I'd definitely be helping
Heh. This idea is sounding better and better. This needs to happen. Reach Forging forum section, go!
I was thinking, "Guerilla-Sapiens". I want to actually mess around with Forge before I commit to anything, though.
I probably wouldn't be a good "lead" for the team, I was just shouting out ideas lol
You'd really need an actual team for stuff like this (yes, I'm captain obvious). Unlike Sapien, it's cooperative (both game wise and communication wise). So you can have all of your team in game doing their parts. You'd have maybe two or three geometry guys working on an agreed layout or just messing around. As they mass out respected parts of the level you then have populators start fielding the world with weapons and decorators. Then you have the game type people come in and populate the currently loaded game type's data (spawn points, objectives, etc). You can also have people in testing things while parts are still being worked on. They can make sure objects are completely aligned, or that one weapon doesn't favor one side, etc. It's a very multithreaded process, everyone can be doing their part at almost the exact same time, and communicate in real time.
Because of that, old habits and ideas used in HaloCE map making don't really apply or need to be reworked to fit in. The "team" would now become a squad, with multiple teams of people underneath it. Each team would be working on a different map. Like say, due to the networked ability of Forge, you can now have 5 people doing the same work at the same time as just one.
This enables you to truly start to compartmentalize your work force. Think of it as the the "hyperthreading" age of map making. We use to run on single cores (one person working in one editor) but now we have multiple cores (multiple people working in the same editor).
You wouldn't want to advertise until you have something solid. That is, known squad\team members and their responsibilities in their respected departments.
E: the team could also go by HEK: Halo Editing Kids :downs:. You know, only add more ambiguity to Halo acronyms like Custom Edition did lol.
I like the idea of the HEK. Good acronym, Korn! Those years in the military sure paid off!
I'm in. I'd be glad to help and crap. I'll probably spend the rest of my free time this year doing Forge stuff anyways.
Remember that there can only be 8 people in Forge together at a time. There could also potentially be a lot of passing the map around between people because of this; you'd have to make sure not to edit your share of work until the map comes back to you.
This is definitely an interesting idea though, and I'd be down for joining a team. Granted, I'd want to get hands-on with the new Forge first and create something worthwhile on my own before teaming up with anyone.
Well, I know I'm not an extremely active part of this community or something, but I have worked with Forge for a while and would really enjoy to actually be a part of something like this (that is, if you guys would be willing to let me join in on it). I really think something like this could lift off, considering you already have plenty of experience in level design (versus most of these teams that simply make a map based on what they think looks cool, and the gameplay is terrible as a result)
I'm probably going to try my hand at some Unreal maps first. Deck, Facing Worlds and Curse to start off with. I've got some plans to make two opposing star destroyers with an asteroid/debris field in between. Each would have a hanger with 4 banshees and 4 falcons on constant respawn, with teleporters to some exterior shade turrets for defence. Depending on how customisable the invasion gametype is, the goal will be to destroy, capture certains rooms or objects within the opposing star destroyer.
Also, the moment I saw that waterfall I though about how good a fissure falls remake would be there.
Theres a lot of people replying to this now, can we get a list of names with who would be interested in doing what?
I'd like to work with geometry layout and detailing
Making thread.
Edit: http://www.modacity.net/forums/showt...uild-(Name-TBD)
Damnit, I was making the thread. :maddowns:
On a slightly different note, Loadouts will be completely customisable for each gametype and up to 5 can be available.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...chloadouts.jpg
Hide Loadout? Wonder what that means.
or probably hide it till X amount of kills or X amount of time has passed ala invasion slayer/invasion
I still wish this game would let you throw in AI in forge. Make your own sorta campaign and firefight maps and such.
Just have a system similar to Timesplitters were you set up each individual AI how you want (Patrol, Spawn and attack, etc.) I would probably stop playing other games altogether if it had that.
On another note, I do not see how Bungie can't enable 4 player split screen co-op. Anyone remember this glitch in Halo 3?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqaArOyOypA
I have used it, it works fine too.
e. Embedded videos don't seem to work for me?
Except when you hit a cortana screen effect, then it doesn't work fine. Stuff like that is why things get cut. Bungie doesn't just cut things just for "lulz", it's due to technical (generally, performance) issues that they either can't fix on the platform, or don't have the time to fix.
Their test labs are a lot more serious than just a couple of kids playing normally via a glitch. 4 player split screen would have to perform without FPS and other issues in ALL test cases before they would bless off on it. Try having players spread out across 4 parts of a campaign map (more detailed, larger, and packed with various AI systems, etc than the MP maps), with one or two of them actively engaged in battle. I bet you it won't perform like it does with only 2 players.
As for AI in Forge, if HEK's Sapien is any indication, getting AI to work right would be extremely confusing and irritating for players, no matter how nice a GUI you wrapped around it. The nature of AI and encounters and scripting is so complex that I can understand why they left it out. It would be undeniably awesome, but then, it would be undeniably awesome if the game had 80 hours of unique campaign to explore. Some things just aren't feasible.
Yeah, I guess from a technical perspective, and in the larger scheme of things, I can see it being a lot more complicated and difficult than it seems.
Still, a man can dream.
Blue Delta is voiced by Chris Carney.
Also, idgi. But it's neat.
It's "3 Mikes (minutes) out from the objective" lol

BEST vehicle Bungie has made :)
Why does the first part sound like a scary gay sex story to me :(

Ah, suffering. Let me tell you a tale, nay, sing you a song, of metal and rubber and a heart as big as the world. Let me hearken to you...the Ballard of Forky.
Forky was a fine steed, but more, he was a fine friend. From the moment my MJOLNIR-clad buttocks pressed deeply into his supple leather seat, I knew ours was a bond that could never be shipped to the wrong depot. And as we lifted boxes and crates together, my hands slipping perfectly around his ergonomic controls, truly it was my heart that soared.
Together we were a force to be reckoned with. Even amidst the Covenant invasion, we refused to shirk our duty. We knew that each and every load could make all the difference. Undelivered, a Marine might go without his beans. A trooper, without her helmet. It was our duty...no, it was our passion.
But it would not last forever. It could not last forever. I'll spare you the details, for to relay them now would be to tear my own soul asunder. To rend my heart into a million beating pieces.
Forky was brave. He was heroic.
But in the end, even together, we could not push the Covenant aside. Our two-pronged assault was not enough. The odds were stacked against us.
Rest in peace, dear Forky. I pray your soul will be lifted to some beautiful warehouse in the sky, where eagles soar defiantly above fields of pristine crates, each pining for safe transit and temperature controlled storage.
Godspeed, my hydraulically gifted friend. You will be missed.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Dear God, they cut the Forklift. I'm sorry, friends. Sometimes I want to have a little fun at your expense. The Forklift wasn't cut. It's alive and well along with a stable of other civilian vehicles, all idling warmly, waiting to go on an adventure with you.
I like that Forklift.
I guarantee there will be a slew of race maps where everyone needs to use the Forklift within a day of release.
They couldn't be on Forge World, though, as Forge World doesn't have any civilian vehicles.

Found that on Facebook... May have something to do with this:Quote:
Listen up, Halo fans! Here is a sneak peak of one of the unreleased scenes from the upcoming Halo: Reach trailer. Hungry for more, if you’re 18 or older, head over to Xbox for Core and keep checking back for more exclusive screen shots.

'Special' Halo Reach announcement coming this week
A 'very special' Halo: Reach announcement will leave Microsoft's lips on Thursday, the firm has told CVG.
The news will arrive at an invite-only event in London - which we'll be at front and centre, don't you worry.
And do you know who else will? Baldy Gadget Show man Jason Bradbury and Rio Ferdinand. Yep, Rio 'I'm really supposed to be at a drugs test' Ferdinand. Nope, we don't know why either.
Perhaps Master Chief will return. In a Man Utd shirt. Or something.
A blurb sent over from MS this afternoon reads:
'England Football Captain Rio Ferdinand and The
Gadget Show's Jason Bradbury would like you to join them for a very special announcement this Thursday for the launch of highly anticipated entertainment blockbuster, Halo: Reach - out exclusively on Xbox 360 on September 14, developed by Bungie.'
Oh man I'm pumped
Does anyone see the Firefly reference here?Quote:

Sick. OK, now I'm getting quite excited for this game.
Who are the poor saps in the mongoose at 0:25? There's a dozen warthogs, a few falcons, and a few pelicans, and those two marines get stuck in a mongoose?
There's also banshees and phantoms in the distance.

Can't say I'm surprised. I remember reading either in the Weekly Update or on NeoGaf that they changed the way the scene from the VGA Reveal Trailer looked. Still looks like one damn beautiful game nonetheless.
Also, according to CVG, the trailer wasn't the surprise. Keep checking CVG to see what it is. Probably nothing special, but any Reach info is good Reach info, right?
E: Fuck that, surprise was that Microsoft "has assembled a UK celebrity 'Super Squad' to take on the best Halo players in the country (England) come launch day."
You had to fucking go there...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-ePvA3urg
Ugh, super squad? Really
Microsoft has just killed my enthusiastic mood for the day...
I actually like the brighter colour gamot of the new version of the reveal trailer. IDK why
E: also holy shit Six brought down a fucking assault carrier (last scene)
also (speculative)
Also, the way the music was featured last time wasn't so awesome, but the way that it was synced this time is so amazing that I keep wanting to watch it over and over for the music.
If people want to do a straight 'hover over' for how the engine looks in the trailer compared to the VGA trailer instead of side by side comparisons of the pics then hover over here:
http://sequoia.wyredforest.net/~kapo...omparison.html
If anyone knows how to embed that link on here - holla
Also peeps, are the new design covenant ships frigates? Just trying to place the design, as in a halo game we've seen Assault Carrier (ie. over New Mombassa) and Battlecrusiers (Truth and Reconciliation) - which i'm sure we'll see again in Reach, but the new ones that you can see in Space and a couple of times in the trailer... So are those new ones in reach, Frigates?
I'm pretty sure hes protecting someone/taking cover/moving out of the way, he's not dead, so yeah i agree :iamafag:
Anyway, SUPER SPOILER WARNING - High Quality 720p screen grabs from the trailer:
Wow- so many spoilered messages. This might be where I go partially dark. I'm not clicking a single one of those.
They're not so much spoilers as they are fan speculation. You'd gain about as much information as you would from watching the 1 minute video and letting your mind run wild.
Yeah, well, sometimes I find that speculation can ruin a good surprise if you're then even slightly suspecting it'll happen. Better to enjoy the campaign without any preconceptions. Except that they all die. :downs:
Am I the only one who got fan serviced when This was shown?
I like how he's just standing there, watching the destruction.
Does anyone have a link to the changes made from the beta to the full game? I'm hearing rumors that the pistol has been weakened....AGAIN....
I don't know if there's a list anywhere, all I remember offhand is that the DMR and Needle Rifle have larger mags and Armour Lock doesn't affect enemy shields the way it used to when it popped. I think there's a podcast where they discussed a bunch of changes. Should be this one.
The only change I remember the pistol getting is a slight rate-of-fire decrease.
Alright. As long as it's a slight decrease I can be okay with that.
It's just so the AR guy can get an extra round or two in so that the pistol doesn't always trump it (if the AR guy starts first)
Hell, even if they removed the RoF cap altogether on the pistol, it would only work well at range when pacing your shots. At least this means it's not the be-all end-all CQB-spamtastic weapon as well. Lord knows we don't need a Pistol out-classing the already overly-nerfed Shotgun.
I miss my H1 Shotgun...
the need to bring back a shotgun with halo 1's stats honestlyi miss being able to get my opponent from the other side of the room with the shootgun
halo 3's shotgun was just terrible i had to ram it down an enemy's throat to kill anything
A few new screenshots, demonstrating a new Firefight map, wildlife and the fact that somebody can stand on the back of a civilian vehicle with their gun :
http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=257971
I loved the shotgun in the Reach beta. I hope they don't change a thing.
You kidding? At a decent distance a shotgun was a one-hit death machine at anything within a 1.5 meter range. You didn't even have to follow up with a melee anymore.
Shotgun was pro, at least when I was using it.
On Powerhouse, Shotgun or Pro Pipe were the first things I went to. People all dashed for the hammer, and I could take them out no problem.
Yeah, I got so many bulltrues with the shotgun against the sword.
New update is up: http://www.bungie.net/News/content.a...ink=BWU_073010
Shows off some pretty awesome forge creations Bungie's made. Some of those interior shots would pass for legitimate forerunner interiors if you asked me. Also, looks like someone there's an Unreal fan.
Yeah, looks like one of the bungie employees are a fan of Unreal - indeed.
Great update though, forge world looks 'bitching' haha. Can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it... also Bungie's new studio space is amazing!
Haha, Facing Worlds :D And look at the rock pieces!
Anyone else spot the Hang 'em High remake in those pics?
How the hell do you get the video links from their blame stosh sections? Am I blind or something, I don't see a widget or anything that acts as a link and right click just has silverlight. I want to download that tank getting fucking rapped across the map and beyond :|
I hope they release those maps when Reach comes out.
They look awesome.
Incoming MAC round.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60O4nnbEBOM
I love the new music. Go harps.
Oh, damn, that's awesome. Though I need to stop watching new footage- I'd love to get those "oh, wow" moments ingame, and don't want to see them all in trailers first.
HAH That Corvette got DECKED.
EDIT: So did that tank, I lol'd
the released the achievments... cant wait to beat this campaign by myself on legendary
Well, the games done. I guess now we'll just have to avoid the inevitable spoilers that will come once the game is leaked by the French sometime later this month.Quote:
RTX
A few days ago we released Halo: Reach to Xbox Certification. Assuming things go well in certification, that means the only things standing between you all and Reach are the manufacturing process and shipping the discs to stores. It’s been a long haul getting the game to this point but the team is incredibly proud of the game and can’t wait to play with everyone on September 14th.
A few folks from Bungie will be travelling all over the world in the next few weeks to demo the game: Brian Jarrard and Niles Sankey are currently touring Europe, I’ll be headed to Oceania soon, and Chris Opdahl and David Allen will be taking Asia by storm in August. If you’re in those neighborhoods, look us up :) If not, you can at least watch the campain trailer and the forgeworld vidoc on more time.
Last but not least, sorry for the long periods between posts - turns out shipping a game and regularly maintaining a blog are not entirely compatible.
Joe
Out of curiosity, are there anyone here from the UK who has pre-ordered this game online?
I've got a ticket with GAME but looking up reviews is starting to make me double think my choice and now would be the best time to change my mind if I needed to.
I've pre-ordered with GAME - Express delivery. Legendary edition too. But I'm picking up a spare/extra copy at the midnight launch too (just normal copy) at my local Gamestation with a friend - just going to play SP all night then gain the benefits of the Legendary Edition in the day some time, also fuck sleep once reach is out. I've used GAME for years now and never had any problems, always good service and here on or before release day.
I preordered my Legendary at Gamestation , then went back in today and pre ordered the Reach Console too, so.... September the 14th better come quick cause I cant wait to open all that lot , its gonna be like xmas ...... only for Halo o.o
If I didn't just by my friends 360 elite, I probably would have bought the Reach console....
I'm saving up for a Reach console. I only need to sell 2 things and bam, I can get it. Thou my grandparents are gonna get me the Legendary Edition from Game Stop they ordered it online so yeah.
Somebody help me figure out what this thumbnail is...
E: Nvm, found a bigger version:
BE WARNED; POTENTIAL "MASSIVE" "CHARACTER" SPOILER...
Ambient life?
According to IGN, it's called the Gueta, and it's apparently dangerous.
Oh wow...
Initially I was just going to get this game because I own all the others (bar halo:wars). But now it also looks like i'll be getting it because it looks pretty :3
SPOLIERS!
I swear Bungie has been spying on me and stealing all my ideas from BCE. That thing is extremely similar in design and appearance to the AA guns placed on the bridge between the Mannheim Towers. Granted, that AA gun was loosely based on the AA guns in Halo 2, and it's likely this one was as well, but still. Reach and ODST seem to have beat me to a ton of the ideas I had. That's what I get for letting my project die. Sad day. :(
Well, I can at least take satisfaction in the fact that some (read: most) of my ideas made it to life in some form or another, even if I had nothing to do with it. :)
They might have, after all, they need to target the game at its audience which is us. So its only common sense to use ideas for the actual audience Lol.
Hunter, the screenshot mentions to swap the armour ability, this has been known about since just after the beta while the hologram was shown about 3 weeks ago...
The civilian truck shot is in campaign, it's part of one of the earlier levels, not in forge.
Also....SPOILERS, there's a reason everyone has spoilered their screenshots, not least due to bandwidth.
