Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
that energy sword looks cool! Jackal Plasma Rifle, not that excited for it though. When is SPv2 gonna be released? a ETA date?

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
We have made 4 (bipeds) at least >_>.
[edit] Shit, I was responding to an old post. *Add contributing content here, please*

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
wait...are the map file sizes twice as large as the CMT SPv1 files?
since there are brutes...how many megabytes do brutes take up in the maps?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
AOTC is the largest map unrared, and it is 284MB.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
That's about...like what...3 times bigger than the normal Halo 1 SP AOTCR?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Normal b40 is 76 megs on PC.... lol.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Fine then, CMT's SPv2 AOTC is about 3.7368421052631578947368421052632 times bigger than the original Halo SP.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
god that will take a while to load... *searches for small ui*
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
SP maps do not get checked for a checksum, so it will not effect your load times.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
The Energy Sword shaders look really bad with that Halo 1 sword model
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
*sighs with relief* my maps folder is around 7 or 8 gigs, and having SPv2 slow down startup time/load time would not be fun.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
I prefer the regular Halo 1 glow on the sword, but it looks nice nonetheless.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
It needs a new model, the Halo 1 sword model is so low poly it makes the shader look bad ._.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
i think it looks cool... but remember people he said it was an old pic.just as long as it doesnt look as wierd as the sword on my avatar. its good but really, it is too big. hehehe im gonna move all my maps into a holder folder for cmtspv2

Im not a mapper, or modder, or anything else. But what I see is really good stuff. I think the only thing that I could want for the single player maps is some kind of coop. People I know that do mods and maps for halo say its either impossible, or impractical. Honestly, I dont know, just my 2 cents worth. Thank you for the effort you guys are putting into this.

Not one hundred percent impossible, just extremely impractical. Every play Area 53? That's a campaign-ish map with scripted encounters, and other players may join. Unfortunately, most of it doesn't sync at all, which makes it unplayable with others.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
If everyone is in at the start of the game, the very basic AI syncs reasonably well, since all it really does is just stand there and shoot.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Well lets get back on topic here guys and talk about the Pics/video or anything related with it instead of Area53... LOl sorry to sound like a pain in the ass XD
I agree with Fried in saying that the sword needs a new model...

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
I look constantly through that video and I didn't see one glimpse of the Energy sword.
Pic(s), anyone??

Yeah, that corona was the Energy Sword's crowning beauty. It was a shame to see it go in Halo 2, especially when it looked so nice in the E3 demo.
I guess they wanted to emphasize the fact that the plasma was self-contained within the magnetic field.

Sword looks nice. I still want to know something about the release date. I can't wait, I'm dying to know.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
How are the gun sounds?
Enhanced? Completely changed?
I sound very picky, but I think that making the sounds as top-notch as they can be will make CMT's mod much more enjoyable. Are you guys going to replace the Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle's sounds with the ones from Halo 3? For example, converting the video file to an audio, then cutting out the specific gun sound in goldwave, then sending it through tool? Personally, those new sounds are much more crisp than before, wouldn't you guys agree? Unless of course, cutting the sounds from Bungie's betalicious video and using it in CE is illegal... ;_;
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
But the sounds are still almost entirely unrealistic...:downs: WTF is this crappy pinging noise on the BR55, and the double clap sound on the MA5C and SMG? Bullets make a clean, crisp, staccato report, unlike what is portrayed in video games. I mean, yeah, sure, full auto is going to have a lot of sounds, but you should still be able to hear a clean crisp report for each round, not the mushy noise you get from the BR55 and M7 SMG in Halo 2, or the MA5B in Halo 1. Outdoors, it should pop then echo, and inside, it should be a loud-azz bang, varying depending on the size of the room.
If you want to know what the MA5C should sound like, go shoot the M24 sniper rifle in Battlefield 2...both the MA5C and the M24 fire the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, so it should be almost the same (albeit with slight variations due to barrel length, and action shape, flash hiders (which the MA5C and M24 both lack), and the type of operation used on the gun (gas-operation on MA5C, manual bolt-action on the M24)).
Sorry, I've been itching to say that about video games for a long time. Graphics and game play aside, it is rare that you get good firearm sound effects from a game. BF2 and the original Red Orchestra mod are the only ones to ever get it right in my experience.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
i too am concerned about the sound. SMG's always sound like your making popcorn. even the true-to-H2 ones
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
The M7 should sound like something in between an H&K MP7 and an FN P90, seeing that the bullet is 5x23mm, where as the P90 and MP7 are 5.7x28mm and 4.6x30mm respectively.

the br sounds are absolutely amazing. i love those sounds. i have yet to hear the smg sound alone (without that damn spiker that everyone uses all the time).

Wow, you sure know a lot about guns... In plus, it wouldn't be as cool, in my opinion, if the guns didn't make much noise when you shot them.

They make plenty of noise. Actually, a P90 is louder than the M7 (Halo SMG, for those of you not familiar with all of the designations of the Halo universe).
And thanks for the compliment. I try.

wow..that is pretty good explanation for custom guns and real weapons:) . Any ETA? guess maybe? update on how the SPv2 is going?

The point of a game is to make stuff sound cool, not necessarily ultrarealistic.

Nah, probably because it would kill framerate to have that kind of glow in first person.

They didn't even sound cool in Halo 1 or Halo 2.
Everyone who thinks the MA5B in Halo 1 sounded intimidating, say "I."
Everyone who thinks the same of the M7 SMG in Halo 2, also say "I."
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
they didnt sound intimidating because the guns were weak. no matter how crappy the gun sounds, if it is a kickass weapon, its scary
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
It's "aye". Agreed, they did not sound cool, but real life gun sounds are bland, most of the time. This is why game designers make more interesting sound effects for their guns.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Have you ever fired a real gun, of decent caliber? That, my friend, sounds so much cooler than even the Halo 2 shotgun (which has one of the coolest sounds of all the Halo weapons). Battlefield 2 is not enough to make an accurate assessment.
And a great gun with a lame sound only sounds intimidating once it has a reputation built up. And there are always n00bs who don't know better.
However, I think we can all agree that the Halo 2/3 plasma rifle sound effect is quite a piece of work...that statement being associated with a negative connotation.

I can accept the lecture on guns, but how the hell do you know what a Plasma Rifle is supposed to sound like?

I don't know, I have to agree with him. It actually sounds like it should be what that gun would sound like. Clear something up for me will you? On the plasma rifle there is a metal strip behind the two plasma points. I always figured that this was some kinda of magnetic propulsion system. The energy (plasma) would gather at the front, and then this strange plate would send a short burst of electricity through it launching a small plasma bolt forward. Just an Idea... They need books for Halo, just like the ones they make for Star Wars, where they describe the mechanics of all the vehicles and technology of the movies.....:XD:
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
That was my theory as well. They've actually changed it for Halo 3. The plasma fires from the top segment, instead of from in between the two glowing prongs. This leads me to believe that the bottom portion is the battery, connected to the main part of the weapon via electrical field between the two prongs. Someone needs to make an animation for an estimated plasma rifle battery reload. This principle works with either iteration of the plasma rifle, if you think about it.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
since we are on the subject of sound i am curious as to why in spv1 durring the beach assault did the background noise stop when all the battle rifles were being fired? and it happens in other places too when there are alot of environmental sounds some wont be played. and the AA rocket launcher, all it did was click. i kept on hoping that it would atleast whoosh but it never did.

The cross-section diagnostics from DK Books? I love those things, Halo really does need something like that.

That is asinine, no offense. I think that is a glitch (it did this with the Heretic Leader in Halo 2 as well, but it obviously came out from in-between in first person)...it should be coming out from between the prongs. It makes more sense that way. The prongs ionize and heat up the air in between them, creating a plasma, and accelerate it electromagnetically outwards towards a target as a plasmoid (Wiki that term if you need to know what it is), and the plasmoid's inertia and magnetic fields within itself hold it together while en-route to the target.
The way you have it set up makes no sense at all. That electric field between the prongs being the connector would be totally pointless, as it would be more practical and efficient to have a hard-wire inside, rather than a device outside that invites dirt, grime, and malfunction. However, I do agree that the battery is in the bottom, but my theory is that the top-half is for cooling.
As far as how it should sound, I don't know, but I do know it sure as hell wouldn't sound like it did in Halo 2. That sound does not correlated to anything a magnetically fired gun would make, and plasma does not create sounds on its own. If I had to take a guess, I would say it would sound sort of like the Halo 1 version, only with more of a "whoosh" sound as the plasma is flung out towards the target by the electromagnets.

But the Halo 1 PR sounded like it was manufatured by Nerf. :(

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
And the Halo 2 one sounded like a cheap plastic "laser gun" kind of toy that you buy your seven-year old kid to keep him or her occupied outside while you do your work.
The high-pitched wine of a palsma weapon makes sense, because of the electric components and the high-voltage flowing through the magnets. The "whoosh" makes sense, because you are hurtling a blob of ionized gas at fairly high speed (though I'll admit, the Halo plasma rifles are as laughably slow as Star Wars blaster plasma bolts).
-

first of all, i prefer the sounds of the halo 2 plasma rifle, because it sounded like there was machinery inside the gun, creating friction to fire the pulse. halo 1 sounded like magical pixie dust. second of all, if you have a 7 yr old kid you REAALLY need to stop playing halo

Depends on how close he is. If he's right behind me hell yah that thing's gonna make me run though it'd be too late by then. What the irony is is that the Halo 3 AR sounds like a pea-shooter an yet it makes the Ma5B laughable.

yea, but with burst fire the h1 ar can be useful at midrange, except it doesn't hav that much power, h3 ar sounds kinda weird but it's got uber power.
o and one more thing, someone please answer this for me
when is the SPv2 coming out? i kno it says the end of month, but i'm a bit skepticle.........lik end of the month as in may 31? or end of the month as in after CMT finishes everything?
and if the CMT already finished everything, can't you guys release it earlier? some of us are DIEING to play it.

Dude, the Plasma Rifle has no moving parts other than the fins that extend when it cools down. You don't need gears, springs, levers, etc. to create an electromagnetic field or to heat up air to a plasma state. Therefore, your argument is nullified. No friction there, no friction required.
No, I don't have any kids. I am only 16. However, my dad, who has me and 3 others, including an 8 year old, used to play Halo until he had to start working overtime.

Now that you mention it, it does make more sense that way. I loved the firing effect in Halo 2, with the up-down-up-down effect. They kinda ruined it in Halo 3, to be honest. Plasma bolts from any plasma weapon have gotten smaller progressively throughout the Halo series. They're really damn tiny now.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Yeah, so I heard. They should make it look (and sound) more like the Halo Wars plasma. That would be sweet. Not to mention, it would match Halo 3 better.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
You mean like when it hits something? yeah, that would be better.

Yes. And have a similar matching sound for the fire effect.

you sat that as if it were actually POSSIBLE to shoot plasma bursts. it isnt, so what do you know?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Actually it is. We just don't have the tech today to do it, and atmosphere tends to interfere with the concept.
The plasma is generated from the gases of the atmosphere in between the prongs, and is held in place while it builds by magnetic fields. The plasma is then shoved along its merry way by another magnetic field towards the target. Now, the matter of "how does the plasma hold together" pops up. Well, there are two ways. The first and most likely is that a current is induced into the plasma to coax it into a plasmoid state, which can hold itself together without any outside help. The second, and less likely, is that the gun emits a magnetic bubble, but if that were the case, then you'd have plasma bolts going haywire when more than one plasma weapon is used in the same area.
All of this happens faster than you can blink, by the way. Otherwise, we'd see the weapon charge for each shot.
So, how much do you really know?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
things work fast. anyways thats waaay off topic. well, nevertheless, it still is a matter of opinion, how "well" the plasma bolts sound that is. i hope that the melee attack is altered from the last time. halo 1 plasma rifle's melee was dumb, h2's was unnessesarily slow, and cmt's from sp1 was... kind of innefective looking. i hope there is a more brutal CRUSH to it this time around. for all weapons actually
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
The MC should use his fist for both the Plasma Rifle and Plasma Pistol.
What would be interesting though, is if it could be enabled that performing a melee with the plasma rifle did more damage when it was overheated.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
I always thought the Plasma Rifle melee would be thrusting that middle plasma bar thingy that shoots the bolts into the opponents body... Like sticking a hot rod and thrusting it with force.
As in, as Explosive American and BobtheGreatII mentioned, the two prongs in the middle between the top and bottom barrel. I always assumed that the rod, or the prong, is always smoking hot, meaning it's ideal to thrust it into a body to cause extra damage. Sounds brutal to me.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
But that thing is thin. It would probably break.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
well the plasma bolt for h2 sounded cool, for h1 it was just plain dumb
as far as the melee went:
h1 original: dumb as hell
h2: needs serious work
SPv1: was ok, but looked kinda dumb, looked lik it had no power to it, it's lik beating a hunter with a toothpick.....
p.s. can someone from the actual CMT team answer this?: how much of SPv2 are u done with?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
I found an article once on plasma weaponry in Halo. Let me see if I can dig it up.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
I made up everything I said, and THEN I found articles supporting it...I have no idea where those articles are now. :downs:
The Halo 2 plasma rifle sound lacked punch. That was the problem. It sounded better in H2CE than in Halo 2. I turn up bass in Halo 2, still no punch. I turn it up in H2CE, and hello, what do we have here? Something that makes me scared when fired on full auto in my direction at close range.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
You pretty much got it spot on. I found the article. One proposed principle suggested an arcjet (the arc between the two prongs of the plasma rifle) could be used to heat gases (atmosphere, as you proposed, but unlikely) and then a magnetic "bottle" would contain the plasma as it traveled to the target, as in Halo. Pretty fascinating stuff. Here's the article.

With Forerunner tech, the atmosphere could be easily heated to plasma. With our tech, we'd use a noble gas like Xenon or Argon.

I don't think even the covenant have the knowledge nor the tech to create a generator small enough in the plasma rifle to create said magnetic bubble. After all they did just steal forerunner tech and retrofit it to their liking.
It's probably the plasmoid state like you said. In halo 1 whenever a plasma bolt hit a surface we could see a splash of plasma around where the bolt hit, probably plasma residue from the plasmoid state. So you're most probably right with the first theory.

cattle prod the covenant with constantly overheated plasma rifles.:)

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
heh may as well just use an energy sword. lol i just thought of something, we have brute plasma rifles (and soon) jackal plasma rifles...
CMT SPV3 weapons list:
brute plasma sword
jackal plasma sword
brute plasma pistol
elite plasma pistol
grunt plasma rifle
got enough racial segregation in the covenant? =p

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Jackals can't use melee weapons, so there wouldn't be any point having a Jackal energy sword. I like the brute PP idea though, but it should look a little different besides just having a different color.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
if SPv3 is gonna have a brute PP, then the color should be red, the shots are powerful, but the gun has 1/2 the ammo then the jackel PP. also a fast overheat. just like the brute PR.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
That was a typo (I hope) from IronClad. It is SPv2, and the plasma rifles are different colors.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
spv3 will never exist, cmt will move to h2v after this mod, not CE
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
but i heard the HEK for H2V is really locked down. That may effect what CMT can do.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Pics look pretty nice but the video was a bit un-appealing.
And what's with the low framerate?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Low end PC+filming can leave you with low FPS.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Oh, good, so it's not strain on the graphics. (or it won't be as bad for the rest of us, except for if we're filming.) Besides the fps issue, it does look awesome. But it doesn't look like it'll be out befoe June, despite what some people said here. (and who really cares, anyway? It's not like the earth will blow up at midnight of June 1 if the SPv2 isn't out by then)

I think that when he said SPv3, he meant H2V SPv1.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
which wont be for quite a while, not to mention it's illegal.
what is CMT doing with H3 anyways?
if you can't put custom guns, vehicles, bipeds.. the only thing you can do is the level, what's happening?
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
SPv3 is the name we're calling a h2 SP mod if we ever decide or have the capability to make one.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
How would making SPv3 be illegal?

I think he means because SP In H2V isn't allowed. It's to our current knowledge today, impossible.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
guys i was kidding about the cmtspv3 thing. i dont want jackal energy swords i was just commenting on the fact that the covenant seems to racially divide their weaponry

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
yes but only to watch it lose balance fall and decapitate itself on the bayonete. but seriously, a grunt is just as capable of holding a brute plasma rifle as a brute is. also, why cant a brute hold a fuel rod? and for that matter, one would think that the covenant would give ALL their troops top grade energy shields. the kind that can withstand 3 sniper rounds before they fizz out, instead of sending all their troops to death at the ends of anyone with a shotgun

grunts don't like brutes, brutes don't like green.

even the covenant don't have unlimited resources. It's just not practicle.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
The grunts are used as cannon fodder, so they won't have powerful shields to protect them. And would you really want Hunters and Brutes to have top of the line energy shields and active camouflage? I was being sarcastic when I said yes in case you didn't notice.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
ugg..tastes like my morning coffeee...... *twiches*
anyway, if brutes hate grunts....will they attack each other? they did in halo 2...

They don't for the same reason we don't equip our troops with Dragon Skin armor and shiny, new assault rifles: cost.

Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
The Brutes and grunts will be fighting on the same side. This is Halo 1, before the disagreement between the Brutes and the rest of the Covies took place. Since it was before the "heretic" let the first Halo blow up, there was nothing the Brutes had against the grunts (except perhaps for getting scared extremely easily)
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
or the grunts could of been stealing their bannanas? who knows that could of been the start of the whole war.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
Not to go too off topic but, if you remember in the Brute VidDoc, the split between the Covenant (at least with the grunts) is actually not cleanly sliced. Most likely it's just them as the Elites loath the Brutes and Jackals are mercs, etc etc. Either that or they are grunts being forced by the Brutes in H3.
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
My heart still belongs to the Jackals. I love those guys. Their shields kick butt, i know they are easy kills but i like them.
man i am excited about Spv2, i can't wait till it comes out so i can play it
-
Re: The Official CMT SPv2 Promotion Items Thread (vid update as of 5-18-07)
there aren't any drones in SPv2. Only brutes, sorry. Too bad CMT is working really hard on this project, probably the next update is the release. who knows?

Dragon Skin is a type of real armor. As seen in one of the episodes of Future Weapons.
