I dont think anyone will ever have the excitement that was built up for the release of Halo 2.
Maybe it's a marketing scheme by Microsoft. Release no details about the game, let the fans trip over each other with assmad comments, and piss off the intelligent people with the Forerunner Saga so that by the time the game is released, there are no expectations and 343i could blow the doors open and make the community experience a world-wide orgasm and make millions of sales. :tinfoil:
But probably not.
Watch Halo 4 be the best game ever.
I'm sure the game will still be good though.
It will be above average just like the last three were, but I'm not holding my breath for "OMG THIS GAME IS AMAZING."
Yeah, XBL was still in its infancy at the time. So having a game made with true XBL support was a pretty big deal at the time.
Hope this game has spotting like in BF. Both in MP and campaign. I mean shit, you're 500 years into the future and have an actual HUD, so why not!?
I loved halo 2 on xbl.
I loved halo 2 on xbl
Until the standbys, modding, superbouncing, ghosting, clipping, and banshee's ruined it.
I'll wait to see the model to judge. Considering Cortana looked like this:

In other drawings.... so We'll see how it comes out I guess.
Cortana's changed a buttload in every single game
The hair/lipstick is pretty excessive though
anyway, eagerly awaiting "oh and it's on PC w/ mod tools!!" not being said
I like the one Bob posted. Really cool and makes it look like a virgin Mary reference
Owai-
I'm liking the look of the new Assault Rifle : http://www.gameinformer.com/p/halo4.aspx
At least the Cortana's in 1-3 still had a vague similar facial structure in each game, this new one seems almost Asian in a way.
Hey, would you look at that!
The Assault Rifle actually fucking resembles the Halo 1 version! :downs:
Oh no, they made cortana look different... how could they /sarcasm ... come on guys, the only real visible differences are the color and length of the hair, are you expecting a clone of H3? Everything they have shown so far has been changed a fair amount :P
BAN HOTROD FOR HAVING AN OPINION
i'm pretty much 99.7% sure that's not even CLOSE to the 'final' version of the h4 masterchief.
unless it's going to be an x360 game
It is an Xbox 360 game? So...
ok
I personally like the look, but as Bob said earlier, concept art rarely shows the true story, either way I'm sure she'll still look like Cortana.
Yeah, MS revoked revealing the newer generation console this year, probably because of the assmad from the customers saying they want backwards compatability with the new console and the 360. Which they should.
Or they can ditch backwards compatibility and not bother with spending resources on making emulators which aren't guaranteed to work with every title.
Ditching backwards compatibility would allow said resources to be used on something more useful, like say reliability?
Dark,
We're talking about MICROSOFT here.
"Working flawlessly" isn't in their vocabulary.
Holy shit... Those Elites... They look fucking amazing.
Good Lord. I can't wait for this much longer. Those look fantastic. And those Elite claws make my skin crawl with terror.
Well... Huh... It's different. But kind of in a good way. I'm digging Cortana... she actually is showing some emotion, this could be interesting.
Also is that a DMR? The assault Rifle looks uh... well pretty much the same... kind of. I only mean it's same in the sense that it didn't radically change like the BR did.
Good lord those Elites. o_0 Much more reptilian, I like it.
After reading the article, I gotta say I'm really looking forward to this game. Sure, it's different from past Halos by adding some CoD-esque elements in there, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Halo needs to evolve, and it seems to be doing so in a great way.
Also, the official Halo 4 forums on Halo Waypoint are full of crying babies right now, a rather funny sight to see.
What are they bitching about?
Oh, everything. They don't like how you can join mid-game, or how you can respawn instantly. They also don't like how 343i didn't remove armour abilities (though armour lock is gone), even though we have no idea how they'll work this time around. They also hate how Firefight has evolved into Spartan Ops, something more evolved and interesting.
In short, they're complaining that Halo 4 isn't Halo 3.
Yeah, that's what we need. All the mainstream shooters to merge into one entity :\
Well, despite this looking like Call of Halo I do like the art direction they're taking and it would be pretty hard to be worse than Reach. Optimism level is raised to Minimal from Nonexistent.
Is anyone else getting prompted for a password for the last two images?
Yeah, so I fixed the url: removed the "?action=view¤t="

They once again pull a 180 on us for what Cortana looks like.
I'm positive they're requiring that armor abilities be picked up like the active camo or overshield was picked up in Halo 1 or Halo 2, or maybe even like equipment in Halo 3.
Also, no more Elites in multiplayer. :(
Oh well, at least there's a lot I approve of. The only thing I'm slightly skeptical about is the instant respawn, but I really am liking the idea of it simply because I love playing Halo. I'm also excited that power weapons are on some maps distributed via random drop pods rather than spawn points.
And that AR gives me a "Ima Placeholder" vibe, mainly from the shaders and how the model looks onyl slightly modified from the Halo 3 one.
Skeptical of Spartan Ops, will hold off on the bitching or excitement until there's more info. The fact that they're giving MP a name (Infinity) smells of either an activation code or some "pay more and get more" program.
Raised an eyebrow when they said elites were no mas in MP (farewell dinos :saddowns: ). Though, it's to be expected of the developer who is hardcore about every aspect of the game aligning with the story. In fact, it's starting to feel like we're getting the exact polar opposite developer from Bungie with 343i. Whether this is good for Halo or not remains to be seen.
Hmm, not so much liking the whole level up weapon unlock, BF3 MW3 ish vibe, that was one thing I always liked about Halo was everyone having access to all weapons at all times, instead of punishing those who play less and rewarding those who play more. Atleast the power weapons aren't available to be unlocked. That being said, I'm still quite optimistic about the game, especially with the new art design and new company behind it :)
Wait...No elites in multiplayer!? >: ( Damn you 343...
>access to weapons at all time
Yeah, unless the fucking other team grabs it and whores it on you, which is more than likely to happen!
Leveling up is fine. The BF and COD franchises are fun, I don't see why it's a problem. If it's because they're "not being original," keep in mind every FPS ever is a rip off of Wolfenstein 3D!!
I know what you mean, I don't mind leveling up, but I don't like the idea of unlocking new weapons for loadouts as you level up, it pisses me off. Halo has always given every player the chance to use every weapon at any time and I don't think that should change.
"343 has no plans for a dedicated firefight mode."
Why? So Spartan Ops can replace it? But I like my firefight. >_>
Yeah, same here, but that's why I'm holding out on my :words: until I know more. For all we know, they're just renaming Firefight to Spartan Ops (essentially). It could be 343i is just trying to slap "343i" stickers on everything with Bungie out of the picture.
Here's a link to all the scans for those of you who are interested : http://forums.gametrailers.com/threa...1284038?page=1
Thank god the assault rifle and whatever covenant weapon that Elite is holding (similar to a Carbine) aren't completely fucked up looking like the BR.
...but oh my god those better not be the final origins for the BR or someone is going to be slapped.
Half joking. Who the fuck gives a shit if something is a "rip off " as long as it's fun? Silent Hill to Resident Evil, Unreal to Quake.. Marathon to Doom.
Well, I don't if you were referring to me. All I was saying is that all the mainstream shooters right now seem to be getting rather homogenous. I mean, look at Marathon vs. Doom. They're similar only in that they're in first person and have guns. The style of art and gameplay are very different.
as are the styles gameplay in halo vs COD of BF!
I didn't say they weren't... \=
I said that they're getting closer and closer together. Look, Halo gets reticle bloom and loadouts and perks (armor abilities)... now it gets XP and leveling with weapon unlocks, etc.
Next year let's just merge them all into Battle-Halo of Duty
I really, really doubt halo will ever have iron sights, spartans with no shields, and trade their red reticule/auto aim system for something more similar to cod
No shields is an irrelevant point since CoD has health regeneration already which is pretty much the same thing. The current auto aiming system is already pretty similar to CoD, the only difference being you don't lose accuracy while moving or gain it while crouching.
uhm, you do too gain accuracy while crouching in reach!!
I guess I didn't notice that cod had the hella red-ret auto-aim (and not magnetism) that Halo has!
I guess I didn't realize being able to take four bursts of a burst fire weapon to the head due to shields was the "same thing" as regenerating health!
ITT: Mookz trues to argue with the most stubborn person on this forum
Shields are relevant because Halo started the regenerative health in a successful FPS. Shields also determine the effectiveness of commonplace weapons. Basically, you're arguing how CoD is similar to Halo because CoD (and most modern shooters) took a LOT of elements off of the original Halo for Xbox.
Halo 4 has to appeal to the large consensus of fans to be successful this go around. It was lucky with Reach to not slump too far down the shitter, but now it really has to do well (which I think it will).
I also feel a really epic vibe coming from a DMR vs. BR dual. Which super-powered commonplace ranged weapon will win out?
And I absolutely love the art style they took with this. Everything just looks so fresh and new. Still thinking the current MP maps lack aesthetic creativity in comparison to the maps found in Halo 3 and Halo Reach, though the mech in the middle of that one map adds a nice bit to it and the layout of the Forerunner map looks pretty well done. Either way, I am definitely looking for to this installment in the series.
How are weapon unlocks going to work though? Halo doesn't have that large of a weapon set.
They're probably going to do some shit with weapons having interchangeable parts (since Humans have had four years to 'improve upon tech with Forerunner research' and such). Maybe that's why the BR looks like shit, because that is the basic variant.
Instant respawn in TS can kiss my ass, though.
I doubt they'll have interchangeable parts, since weapon customization isn't something Halo is ready for just yet.
Or maybe secondary triggers for weapons as a modification? Night vision for scopes? I don't think it'll be anything like BF3, but simple things like what I just listed.
Well, judging that there is a DMR and a BR... I'm guessing they've probably upped the weapon count.
The campaign sounds fun, at least. But if they cut firefight, who knows what else they cut. Theatre? 4-player co-op?
They did say there was still 4 player co-op, the replacement for firefight, the Spartan Ops thing is also 4 player co-op.
They've continued to build on the Reach engine, so they would have to be pretty lazy to not have Theatre this time around (and fans would raaaaaaaaaaaaaage). Luckily, they've already said (at PAX 2011) that Forge would reappear, so I'm betting they're not going to totally trip up and cut Theatre. Well, unless they rename that too.
343i presents: Halo "On-Demand" :downs:
being right on the internet is what matters most in life!! even if the assumption itself was completely 100% wrong and unresearched!!
why
they're all terrible
dohohoho
of course
Look, someone fucked with the thread titles! Hey, don't look at me, I haven't had mod powers in years.
yep, it was freeprancer
It's just that every weapon in Halo is meant to be balanced in regards to a certain niche it's meant to filled, and every weapon is meant to be useful in its own place and time. (Whether this was done correctly or not is a different matter). Every weapon is supposed to be balanced with the rest of the weapons, and everybody knows the role of each weapon. Adding weapon attachments could potentially unbalance something to the point where it's too powerful and becomes the one weapon people go to in all situations (Halo 3 BR anyone?).
I dunno, creating a nice balance in a Halo game with attachments would be almost impossible, and people definitely wouldn't be starting roughly equally anymore. The way they seem to be doing it with Halo 4 at the moment implies that as you level up, you get more options, not necessarily better ones, just different. Having unlockable attachments gives you better options as you rank up, giving an advantage to those that have played longer, which goes against the whole soul of Halo. Not to mention that the fanbase would rage about it.
two dalek avatars..
Two Dalek avatars is too little, isn't it? We need to convert more people to Dalekism! Exterminate! Exterminate!
Gaylo.
It says in the article that player customization is in, no need to get worried.
And what's wrong with the Elites, Grunts and Cortana looking different? Grunts have stayed pretty much the same, but Elites and Cortana have changed after every game. In plus, 343 Industries should put their own spin on things rather than just copy Bungie.
It isn't so much Cortana being different which there is never two of the same but it just seems like the stark contrast jump from Halo: CE to Halo 2 for me. The Elites however are looking more like Jackals and their heads are shrinking. Also, the Grunts don't have that crab-like feel that they've had for the past ten years. They seem more reptilian than they should.
