Yes, a group of roughly six active and semi-active people whose only form of communication is AIM who are porting data ripped from an XBox CD via PC to a six-year outdated engine as a personal hobby with no monetary incentive should definitely be able to match the quality of the most prominent and [most likely] well-paid professional video game company (that hires denizens of the most talented artists in the industry, no less) in current popular culture... and they must certainly be perfectly capable of churning out material that more reminiscent of Halo 2 than this ages-old build.
And in the case that you haven't yet noticed, Halo 2's textures and models are by no means particularly detailed to begin with.
