Instead of snow and ice how about more of an Spring\Delta delta feel instead?
That would be good, instead of the frozen lake, you can have a real one! Maybe a shallow river and waterfall too, and a few small hills in the middle. Also, I think the overall look should have a more human feel to it, rather than covenant.
