Meh, personal preference really. I can easily just turn down the contrast on the bump map and a slight gaussian blurr and walah.

Its completely up to you, it looks fine the way it is....
Don't let me pressure you into changing you ways... or influence you D:
Influence me.......What?
NES Cart and Texture I did...

The model was created in Maya and is 300 quads.
Also, anyone know an easy way to do wireframe renders in Maya? The few errors visible in the wireframe I rendered are just from the render. The wire is rather clean... but for some reason it didn't like to render my edges nicely :(
OH GOD MAYA?!
MAKE IT STOP!
man i've worked with people using maya, and EVERY time the model got into my hands, because theyre too stupid to UV ot for example i spent hours cleaning up dumb mistakes that are so incredibly typical of maya.
yea, user errors ofc, but when i get models from people not using maya, those kind of errors are never there.
i just hate maya, and will bash it when i get the chance, and praise max to the heavens k.
then you work with lamoids :|
maya rox ur sox
no
How are the errors "typical of Maya" when you state that they're caused by "people too stupid to UV"?
Don't hate Maya, hate the users. :downs:
.... I even posted my texture... to the model that I had to UV before doing it.
UV mapping is much easier in Maya than MAX IMO
no, you're all stupid :saddowns:
you're all CORRUPTED!
Tweek loses GG guys.
So does anyone know any good wireframe rendering tips for Maya?
I say User Error.
Llama is right. Unwrapping in maya is SO much fucking easier, and the fact that selecting faces in the uv window lets you modify those faces directly on the geometry, allows you to much more easily select chunks of faces. Just drag them in the uv window.
Tweek, the reason you get fucked up models is that the only real way to export from maya to max at the moment is .obj. Hopefully the next version of maya will export better. Thats the only reason I use max right now. Just so I can export to other programs better. I actually find maya to be a much better program.
Wireframe rendering tips?
Spacebar you get that menu thing, and its like view, or some shit (don't hjave maya open right now) and theres a box, "show wire on shaded" or some shit. All I know is, start at spacebar.
Ops, double poasted :X
I hear autodesk may discontinue maya.
What was the point of that post? To get someone angry? It really bore no relevance to the thread nor the situation at hand.
I heard Maya > Max in so many ways, and many companies use Maya for animation. Try harder.
you're all going to hell for believing in maya!
max is the only god!
the streets will flow with blue of the slain maya interfaces yeeeeey
No, you fagtards don't use it therefore don't judge. I, and Con use both, now those are opinions to trust.
Maya is just better. Never had 1 hitch in Maya. Plus it has a faster workflow and better material editing (hypershadeftmfw) and WAY better unwrapping. The modeling is about the same, but Mayas tools and curve and line options make it better for organics. If I could export to the HEK with Maya, Max would become obsolete for me.
I use both as well and think Maya's interface and UV Unwrapping is far superior.
Yarp. Max's whole modifiers thing slows down the pace of things ALOT. Plus it is a constant chunk out of the UI.
Plus, the way that you can transform the UI in Maya by selecting a different mode (polygons, animation, rendering) is just awesome because it means more room for you to work in and doesn't clog up the screen with shit your not using.
And I still stand by this statement. Can you select faces/edges/verts in Max's uv editor and then being able to directly modify them with them still being selected?
No. Maya lets you multi task. If you know Maya well enough, and have a big enough screen, you can model, unwrap and tweak shaders at the exact same time.
Why do you think Unreal Ed, the editor for the most licenced game engine, Unreal Engine 3, is based alot, on Maya?
Because it owns.
She has some pretty cool stuff. Not really into the style though.

Diffuse + Normal Map - Parralax + Amb Occlusion + Coloured spec = :o
I said parralax, meaning there is parralax going on in that render.
:/
The mistyped minus sign threw him off is all, I believe.
You guys make Maya seem so awesome I want it now. Is it easier to unwrap Maya?
Rofl, of course it is. It has about 3 times as many uv tools as Max does. I'd be unwrapping everything in Maya, but I have to use max atm, because of Halo map stuff and Maya not being able to export to the HEK. It's painful in comparison.
Shut. UP! Holy crap, I'm so sick of you saying the same shit over and over and over and over again! You have a right to have a opinion, but seriously, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We have heard what you think (like a billion times), so please, for the love of god, keep it to your self. I don't give a flying fuck about how much you hate max. If maya is so great you shouldn't have to bash max every five minutes. People like max, and people will use whatever program fits their style or needs. Maya, max, lightwave, wings, blender, mudbox, zbrush and others will all appeal to different people, so theres no need to bash them. It's like racism for programs. I feel like posting a wall sized rant right now, but I've made my point...
...no disrespect of course, your still awesome.
The problem is, the Maya users hardly ever bring it up. It's usually someone who sees something in Maya or is just talking and decides to throw in a "MAX>>>>>MAYA FO SHO LOL." Tbh, I've never heard anyone who uses Maya really start it. What I'm saying is, as of as not, max users start the little battle.
e: I'm going to upload something to youtube... if wol will let me. D:
Hey guys.
Guess what?
Next person to talk about 3DSMax or Maya in relation to each other gets b&.
:cop:
mastur-b&?
plz
...Oh, so tempting Mr. Bear, sir.
I dig it.
Someone get some tutorials out on how to use this god forsaken "Maya" and I will try it out and be the real judge. Also, That texture is so awesome, in so many ways... forget I ever critiqued your work.
Llama, I was merely stating fact. I'm not going to lie and say Maya is a complete piece of shit and max is better ar unwrapping and no you shouldn't consider geting it. When people need information about something, I deliver. Sure it might seem a little angsty towards max, but fact is, all the max users bitch about Maya saying its not as good, and all the people who have tried both say Maya is better. That pisses me off.
It's not like I go out of my way or anything to stab max. Whenever the topic arises, I put my 2 cents in. If the facts hurt people, well boo hoo. My opinion still stands, and until they, with an open mind, try Maya for themselves, I'm not dropping the arguement.
However, in THIS case, I'm done with it. My opinion is one is better than the other in MY area of doing things. Rendering, unwrapping and materials. Other opinions are that Max is better for what THEY require.
k?
Best piece of art ever produced by a member of the human race ahead. Before anyone says anything congratulatory, I know it's beautiful.
Try creating some stuff that requires a little more thought process. Those are so simple I can't even think what you would learn from them other then basic tools. Well, now that you've done that, work on learning technique with some more advanced stuff. I'd recommend something like a gun model, yes everyone does them and there's tons of them, but it's something better to learn off of. If you really want to jump right in try doing a character or vehicle.
Did you even look at an n64 cartridge before trying to model that? try again.
Aww now I want an N64 again, and goldeneye :(
Nope :D I don't have any anymore and I couldn't find any good reference shots from the top (like I said in my post) The rest of it is actually correct though.
Here's a render Hizlo made of that same model, he beveled the top of it up a little bit though.
http://www.llamajuice.com/school/fs/N642.jpg
I modeled what I did because it was for a school project. The complexity of the model wasn't really an issue, I just wanted to model some stuff that would look alright and meet the requirements.
@ Leiuk it was for a 3D foundations class. The point of the class is to learn the basics.
I modeled a low poly character for the class aswell (500 quads was the limit)...
That's in my animation that I had to do for the class...
(long pause at the end because youtube kills a few seconds off of a video)
Do not want fatchickn64 cartridge.....
how disturbing
i will tbh.
@ other llama:
I could take pictures of one of my N64 cartages if you want.
@ banned dano:
Nothing is as good as you remember it, including Goldeneye....
Anyway, I just felt like posting something. Probably not worth posting at all, but I want to know if this seamless texture is ok. I made it with a camera and photoshop: (the hay)

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/4675/hayas0.jpg
The pattern repeats alot, I'll make sure to dull down the large details next time.
Haha, thanks, but it's all good. I did what I could for that project and it's over with. I'm done with the model.
looks really good llama :)
Looks good. Ground looks kind of cool too.
holy shit.
needs moar microscope
Awesome. I want a macro lens D:
Take pictures of cells ;P
Timo: Lovely.
I adore detail. *_*

When i get bored in MSpaint... still not done.
(yes i know there are shading errors. I dont give a shit yet ;p)
EDIT: Updated.
@Plas:
I have a feeling that drawing is related to Death Note :v
@Timo:
HOLY SHIT
More of a.. girl friend broke up with me, lets open mspaint and sketch, oh hey looks like a bird claw, oh hey now it looks like a demon, oh wow now its a demon squatting while taking a shit, so lets add some cloths and some spiky shit and upload it since I havent uploaded shit in a while kind of pic. :>
That's pretty good for MS Paint!
idgi. mum is somehow under whelmed by it timo. I think she may have to have an accident soon >__>
also :awesome:
also, I was playing around with the colourer in gmod to understand it, and thought I might whip this doo-dad together.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...struct0053.jpg
you specify your R,G,B and transparency values with the more and less chip, can test it out in the middle plate at the top and then colour yourself.
oh, and a little buggy i made.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...eta1_10000.jpg
I lied FS :(
OF COURSE YOU MUST GET IT THAT GOES WITHOUT SAYING ~:awesome:>
also, it's gmod 10, but the back plate is a piece from the phoenix model pack, and the rest of it is done with wiremod.
Holey shit, I love the flare on the sun. :o
Third pic in the second lot is just made of awesome.
That's it, I'm making a reverse mount for my 50mm f/1.8 now so I can compete with Timo's macros. <>
Also,

Hdr, 3 shots. May take a better, sharper shot some time this weekend, as the house with that door is literally a 30 second walk away.
Also HDR.
I like it, reaper
:O
Timo, can i get the image thats like something_shed_2 in something like 1680x1050? i want it as my bg.
I like them. The last one I like the best with the fence. It just has cool colors.
What resolution are you after?
what is this, battle of the lenses?
THAT, would be a cicada. They're pretty noisy and pretty damn annoying D:
My grand farther has the best pic i've ever seen.
he took it at a place in new Zealand over a very still pond looking up and through a valley.
because of how still the water was it is nearly impossible to determine which side of the picture is up and which is down.
not to mention weird effects that we cannot explain.
looking up through the valley you barely can see some snow capped mountains miles in the distance, where as when you look through the valley on the reflection of the water the Mountains are crystal clear.
How can you see further on a reflection then with your own eyes.
and there are some other aspects of the picture that appear only on one side.
very strange indeed. i only noticed the photo graph about 6 months ago.
it's pretty dam old tbh, i dont have a scanner and i'm not sure if he has any negatives of it. it was taken a long long Long time ago if you get my drift.
i'll see him this weekend and i'll hunt him for some info because tbh i'd love to blow it up and frame it on my wall.
